I'm going to have to separate my ducks too. Especially with the new drakes, I just have too many boys so I'll have to set up a bachelor pad for some of the boys soon.
That's what I think too. People buy EE's expecting birds that are at least likely to lay blue or green, so keeping brown/white/pink layers and breeding and selling them as EE's doesn't make sense to me.I like them because they are pretty, and you never know what color you'll get. I like having a colorful flock.![]()

Me either.
Great news on spirit, and about the sanctuary. I wish there was one around here, maybe there wouldn't be so many ducks at the parks for me to grab.Too hot today, and the kids woke up early. I'm hoping the little babies made it last night, and can another night and I'll try for them tomorrow morning. By then who knows, there'll probably be more.![]()

I learned from the sanctuary that if they get complaints at the parks here, the wildlife division goes out and shoots them with 22s. The sanctuary people try to grab as many as they can and rehome the girls, but they sell the boys for meat. I wonder what is the worst fate for a drake.... to be swimming along and get shot.... to be swimming along and become a predator's dinner.... or to be hauled from point a to point b so a human can flip him upside down and slit his throat.
With that said.... yesterday, we moved our bachelor flock to the side yard next to our house. They seem content with their new digs. Lucky boys.
