Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Celtic, I was just reading that yesterday (what I posted) I myself havn't fed them wheat, but I read that at a state extension office site, that feeding thus prevents angelwing. I like your feeding program better, and was pleased to finally find the link to it.

Get quail then! They are easy. For me they are literally like an oven. Set em and forget about em. Well, other than feeding, watering, cleaning, and making sure that the covey gets along in the beginning. Males can be butt heads but I have had pretty good luck with mine. They are for my enjoyment/egg/meat purposes only. I thought about re-homing all of mine because I was worried about not having enough time for them when school starts. I decided against it when my newest popcorn hatched. They are too much fun. I am taking some to Jaz this weekend but will still keep a good portion of them.
They sounds like the multipurpose bird to have around! Are the less domesticated ones still as useful? There's a man about 45 minutes from here that sales California Valley Quail and Bob Whites.

I keep trying to give her quail, and eggs.

yeah i dont know why they would say wheat stops angel wing. Its a hard grain, rolled oats is a better option IMO, but you have to offer grit when anything but starter feed is offered.
I've always got grit available. I've never fed wheat, and I live in the wheat state. They also suggested putting it into water to feed them. I was kinda like what??? Wet grain... Hmm...sounds bad. But, it is an extension office, so I gotta wonder. I like oats. I can get those from my brother!

Yes, but she' probobly be shocked to have them arrive in 2 weeks. PM me your address, we'll find out.
They're too small for her to raise though? I hate making them do all the work then have to take their babies away.

yeah they want you to soften the wheat before feeding. pointless, just use rolled oats when young its easier on them. i use wheat in the winter here, just rewrote the feed page again too showing the grains and rough amounts.
