Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

I'm waiting to see if my incubator is holding the right temperature for a few more hours, then I'm setting 5 duck and 5 quail eggs. I'm getting jealous of everyone's cute ducklings, I want some of my own. I have 4 of the chickens going bye, so I have room for another duck and my silkie's 2 chicks. They're doing great, the one that is part cochin is teeny, less than half the size of the leghorn x who is huge.

Hoping they're both girls, I don't want roos anymore. They make me nervous with my daughters.

My chickens/ducks/turkey all share a pen and roost. The chickens all roost at night and the ducks sleep on the floor so it works out pretty good. You need a pretty wide roost for silkies or they'll sleep on the floor though, and then they'd be a huge mess from the ducks. I also have to keep my food and water in the run, about 100 feet from each other, to keep the ducks from making the coop wet and stinky. The drake will pull the chickens tails occasionally, and I've seen my roosters on top my ducks, but they mostly get along great.

Forgot to add if you're wanting a broody, bantam cochins and oegb are just as small if not smaller and go broody all the time and make great mommas. They are also a lot less likely to be a muddy mess living with ducks. I think part of the reason mine stay halfway clean is because they spend 3/4 of their time in the nestbox being broody. They are cute, but if anything happens to them I don't think I'll get more, especially if I get more ducks.

One of these days, when I'm ready to get new chickens I want a bantam polish. I think they're so fun looking. Since my ducks lay so great and my chickens are doing so cruddy I am only getting chickens I think are fun looking, since I don't seem to get eggs from them.

Hubby says I can't have any chickens. "We have enough darn animals. We don't need anymore animals. How many times do I have to tell you. No more animals."

Hubby keeps bringing them home. We are in city limits, only allowed 15 poultry. I had my 15, he keeps getting more.

His friend gives them to him, and he will not turn it down. So far he's brought home a PIGLET(animal control was called and said we had to get rid of it because there wasn't a pen for it, we're allowed 2 livestock because our lot is big enough to house them 200 ft away from neighbors), my turkey, a rooster, a barred rock pullet, a cornish x pullet, the anconas and 2 pekins, and the rabbits.

I don't mind being a few over what we're allowed, but I want to pick out my birds, and the ones he brings home keep me from being able to get ones I want. Plus he becomes attatched to every single one and wants them to live here forever. I have a few favorites that will live here until they die, but the rest are pretty well loved livestock that I don't feel bad about selling or whatever. They can't all be pets when you have more than a few.
