Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

What kind of eggs ya got cook'in?
That's an awesome deal! If I didn't already have too many ducks ....wait a second did I say TOO many ducks??....scratch that...my incubators are fixing to be full! LOL
Some of my Sebs are very chatty and more busy bodies..other are very sweet and extremely shy.
That is alot of ducklings...what can I say? I get addicted to their adorable lil selves! LOL
I get more excited every day..spring is on the way!!

I have good news and I have bad news....

BAD NEWS:

This morning my pen of Sebastopol projects were already out...one of them was missing!! OMGoodness! I found a blood and feather trail, followed it, and found a huge pile of white, curly feathers covered in blood! I'm just sick over it! I feel like a horrible goose momma...my poor sweet baby girl - R.I.P.

We are fixing all our goose houses and re-predator proofing them. This will not happen again if I can help it.

GOOD NEWS:

I found my 1st goose egg ever this morning!! It was in one of my colored Sebastopol pens. I have a curly white gander (Caspian) with a smooth lilac (Penny), and a smooth grey (Ashley). I'm think Ashely laid it, but not certain on that. After I let them out this morning, Ashley went back inside their house and made a nest, scratched around a bit, and came back out. Now sure if she was looking for her egg, getting ready to lay an egg, or what? Penny was scratching/rubbing her rear-end a lot this morning, so not really sure. Either way I'm super excited!

It weighed out at 132 grams! Which, I've read is a pretty normal size for beginners. Pictures to come.....

Sorry. I hate to lose anything, but a goose would be especially hard. They are extra special.

Congrats on the goose egg! I can't wait to see everyone posting gosling pics on here.

EE and OEs. :D 19 went into lockdown but I really only have hope for 15 of them. 4 were iffies that I wanted to give a chance JIC. I have 4 out now and one is now in a Tupperware dish with a damp paper towel because its yoke sac was still hanging out. :/

Three yellow chicks and one dark blue/gray. Figures it's the dark one having problems. Is the smallest and I love the shade she is fluffing out to.

Thanks honey

It weighed 132 grams.....I hope to find another egg in the morning, but we'll see. I have never had good luck incubating goose eggs, so I'm really nervous! I do not want to waste any of my precious goose eggs.

Aspen .. last year was our first year of hatching... Pete's guide was invaluable! Use it and keep notes as the weather in your area will require minor adjustments. Good Luck
