Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Do you have pics of your cross? Was the mom or dad a canada? I googled some pics of domestic/canada crosses awhile ago, and they were gorgeous. Too bad they are infertile, or I'd love to just have a flock of them, lol. I saved a pic of one I saw googling because it was just so pretty and I want a goose like it.

How beautiful
Julie, that goose is most unusual! I think how they look varies though. I could see some distinct advantages to sterile geese. No guild feelings about not hatching the eggs for one. Nowdays, if a goose laid I'd eat it, since they havn't been seperated 3 full weeks yet. However, I'd be thinking the whole time that if I just popped it into the bater, I could have another actual goose...... (sigh) You must know the inner struggle. Its harder and harder to eat something I know I could hatch.
You sound just like me... *sigh*

I told you all I recently lost three of my precious geese...here is what we caught...........

The first night we set the trap, we caught our wild 'barn' cat...we relocated the cat.

The next night we set the trap again and something wallowed it around and set it off. We went to TSC that morning, and picked up a larger trap. This time we staked them in the ground so they couldn't be moved around.

Third night here is what we caught:

...you are probably wondering what on earth our dog is doing in the trap....

That night I had told one of the little ones to feed Rusty ( the dog), so they took his food out onto the front porch and called him...he always comes ...but this time he didn't. I instantly knew right where he was...sure enough I walked out into the backyard, looked into the goose pen where the traps were set and....

Fourth night - we finally caught the little murderer!!

The guys had fun using him as target practice. He cost me about $300.-$400 dollars. Good riddance!

I can only have 2-3 geese though. I just don't feel like I have enough room, or grazing for a big flock of them, and I don't want to hatch tons of geese, but I do want a few babies each year because I hope to actually eat a few one of these years. So no room for them for me. If I just wanted them for pets, they'd be great though. Unusual and pretty.

Only 3....you poor thing!! LOL I did have 18, before the murdering coon killed three. Now I just have 15.

Thanks...I am very relieved he is gone, too. We plan on keeping all the traps 24/7.

Lol, I know. 3 is a pitiful number of geese to have. But I have just under an acre, and neighbors. Plus little kids so the amount of goose poop in the yard is a big factor, lol.

Took pics today.... Hope no one minds my updated flock pics.
My Blue Cayuga Drake that managed to stay away from freezerland!
