Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

I'm Ok enough. Have had some medical issues this week, so I've only barely checked in.

I do have all birds in their correct breeding pens for 2 weeks now. The sebbie girl is still mooning over Dude, whos at my moms now. She was in town for my DDs 13th birthday last night, and took him home. Poor girl seems very lonely now.

Baby eats and rests a lot. She's quieter overall now. I think she's a little depressed, so I'm about to put a few extra drakes in with her. I figure she's rather have a couple of ducks than goats as her closest buddy. She does have an OK appetite. She doesn't try to walk as much now. I think she misses the geese at night.

Glad you caught the culprit !

Took pics of "Rosevelt" (my daughters goose) back to when I bought the eggs ~ Mom is a Toulouse/African & Dad is a 100% canadian ~ So my mutt bird & a Life'r here ~

What beautiful geese!
Jules he/she is very sweet, talks all the time ~ goes "What What" .... "What What" (but not loud)

Never sexed the bird.... So its a he?

I took pics of my Ohiks & My trio of sebbies too. Anyone want to see them? I know when I do pics I get everyone done

When I saw this picture I started to cry..he is a spitting image of Cotton...my gorgeous Lavender Saddleback gander that I lost. Do you have anymore pictures of your precious boy? He reminds me so much of Cotton.

What is this cutie ?
The little one is one of my call ducklings. The only one to hatch out that color, and my favorite lol. I got my embden from ideal. And the canada goose came from an egg given to me by a friend that was in her goose's nest. Figured it was one of her geese, but apparently one of the wild geese there were dumping eggs in other nests. When she hatched I was hoping she was a cross actually, lol, because of the pics of mixes that I'd seen. I don't know if she'll stay here or leave with the other geese around once she's breeding age. I'm hoping she'll come back to nest.

Hi Julie, hows things in the big city area? Do you have any goose eggs yet? I sure don't. Not complaining, but it seems like lots of folks are getting them. Mine have been seperated for a couple of weeks now.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So friggin kewl !!!
I listened to my 2 eggs set Dec 28th that are supposed to hatch Feb 19th ~ BOTH HAD HEARTBEATS !!!! (Emu Phil)
Then I listened to the other 2 set on Jan 5th ~ I bought at auction ~ BOTH HAD HEARTBEATS !!!!
I have
3 ~ set on January 19th from Auction
4 ~ set on January 29th from Auction
6 ~ set on January 31st from Emu Phil
and
Just bought 6 more today & are in route this week!
So how many is that now????
So out of the 1st 4 eggs ~ I hear 4
woot.gif
Well I currently have a trio of colored sebbies, and one Canadian cross for geese. I REALLY like my American buffs last year, well I actually liked all my geese & all you peeps know I was The MadHatcher last year!
lau.gif
But these 4 never made it to the freezer. I wanted some goose eggs this spring. I know she has a bunch of breeds, she got the assortment from a hatchery. I don't know if she can even tell which breed is which. So I need to figure that out how to tell them apart
Wh & Br Chinese
2loose
Poms
Embden
African
Am Buff
Roman tufted (I know the easy one right?)
Need to find pics of week olds of each of these before I go
th.gif
They are all only a week old.
$20 an egg is average, but can get spendy if you are getting them shipped ~ I pay $46 for two eggs (shipping incl'd) from Cali.
From auction I have averaged $20ea & bought all 4 one week, $23 for 2 & 3 another 2 weeks at auction.
I already have 8 people interested in Emu chicks, and that is just word of mouth from auction. I do not know how many will hatch. I have never hatched them before. One guy tried last year & bought 13 & hatched 2. I now will have 23 set ~
fl.gif
But could you imagine if all hatched
ep.gif
I have a big glass aquarium we are setting up in our living room, while they are day olds, so I can talk to them, and keep a CLOSE eye on them! Does anone know how to raise baby emu's ????
Oh my, I am dying to get some Canadian Geese! Mmmm...how many new pens is that, I need to built..?? 1...2...3...4................................
Are the Tufted Romans white or buff? I have one Tufted White Roman goose...and no mate for her. After the breeding season, unless I find a use for her, I may end up selling her to someone for a pet. I really love the look of the tufts though. So adorable!
I hatched out a Crested Blue Swedish X duckling yesterday. It is sooooo adorable. I have no idea how I'm going to sell it! LOL
Most of the people in my area probably have no clue what an Emu even is! LOL I would love to hatch and keep some tho. Why do I have to be so bird crazy? Oh well....
I'd better get myself outside and start working on more pens, yes? ; ) Heehee
i wish i live closer i would take him in a heartbeat! if you decide to keep him i want eggs!
fl.gif
Do you have pics of your cross? Was the mom or dad a canada? I googled some pics of domestic/canada crosses awhile ago, and they were gorgeous. Too bad they are infertile, or I'd love to just have a flock of them, lol. I saved a pic of one I saw googling because it was just so pretty and I want a goose like it.
smile.png
so pretty!
I told you all I recently lost three of my precious geese...here is what we caught...........
The first night we set the trap, we caught our wild 'barn' cat...we relocated the cat.
The next night we set the trap again and something wallowed it around and set it off. We went to TSC that morning, and picked up a larger trap. This time we staked them in the ground so they couldn't be moved around.
Third night here is what we caught:
...you are probably wondering what on earth our dog is doing in the trap....
That night I had told one of the little ones to feed Rusty ( the dog), so they took his food out onto the front porch and called him...he always comes ...but this time he didn't. I instantly knew right where he was...sure enough I walked out into the backyard, looked into the goose pen where the traps were set and....
Fourth night - we finally caught the little murderer!!
The guys had fun using him as target practice. He cost me about $300.-$400 dollars. Good riddance!
~ Aspen
glad you caught it! i bet you can rest easier now!
Took pics today.... Hope no one minds my updated flock pics.
My Blue Cayuga Drake that managed to stay away from freezerland!
Glad you caught the culprit !
Took pics of "Rosevelt" (my daughters goose) back to when I bought the eggs ~ Mom is a Toulouse/African & Dad is a 100% canadian ~ So my mutt bird & a Life'r here ~
Butt I don't want you to take my picture!
Now you see me .... Now you don't
No goose eggs here. No duck eggs, and barely any chicken eggs, lol. I might actually have fertile eggs from my goose this year too. Paulla and Jerry have been nice enough to offer stud service from their gander Halloween, so I'll be "renting" him for a little bit.
lol.png
And I'll be able to see if I can handle a gander and my kids and breeding season hormones and all or if I should wait another year or 2 before getting one.
Yay for the catch up posts! Love them, and love that there are actually posts to catch up on.
Baking - nice to see ya girl, good on ya for getting back here again!
Julie - yeah, my birds are on strike too, and I don't go plug in the light, so I guess I'm waiting until springtime for more eggs. It seemed to me my moms geese don't start laying until mid to late march.
I just want a few before Easter, to blow out and decorate, lol. So I'm hoping she'll start around the beginning of March, so I have time to get them done. Then she can take a break and wait until the end of march to start back up.
