Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

So, who has the next hatch due...?
I have two test eggs locked down right now.

Doesn't shock me. Silly birds!

So... got me a cabinet bator today. May need to replace thermostat wafers just for good practice. In the meantime, I'm trying to figure out how to use it. The seller said he messed with the settings a bit to see it work, but I think it's all out of calibration now. Once I get this gadget figured out, I'm going to need a bunch of test eggs. If test goes well, we're in business. If not, I'm going to consider converting it to digital with a cabinet incukit. I didn't pay as little as I had hoped for it, but I did get him to knock off a chunk of change. Now off to look at user manuals and parts lists.

Quiet tonight. I'm such a threadkill.

So, I was becoming frustrated with trying to calibrate the new incubator. Guess which idiot was turning the knob the wrong way. I've disabled the main thermostat and calibrating the rear one as if it were new at the moment. Still going to buy a few extra wafers just in case. 30-year old unit is going to need parts at some point. It's a GQF 1202 from around 1983.

I'm going to have to get the hang of using a manual bator now. I've been spoiled with my all-electronic preset toys so far.

The fun part is when I get the hang of this thing and can get some test eggs in it.

What kind of eggs are in lockdown?

That's cool you got a new bator. Sounds like fun!

They actually do

. I think they find them in their run. We have such rocky soil down here.

Good luck with the new incubator. I'm heading to lowes sometime this weekend to get the stuff to try to make myself an incubator. I've been using an lg so long though that I'm scared to try anything else, lol.

I've got new babies hatching. One little bourbon red poult, and a few seramas. My seramas and d'uccles that were due on Sunday are already hatching though! Most are peeping, and there are like 4 already pipped and zipping. I know some lines of bantams hatch at day 19, but I really wasn't expecting these this early! I move around all the eggs in my incubator, I have a fan installed, and my turkeys and the sfh I just hatched were late, and these are coming early. I forgot to write the date on my seramas, so I don't know if they were on time or not. Weird! As long as they are hatching i'm happy, but the early/late thing is throwing me for a loop here.
My itty bitty guys. I need to get a pic with the poult in with them, he's huge next to them.

gig.gif

hide.gif
. They both sat on rocks last year too. I wish people around here had duck eggs for sale then I would just slip a few under them.

I could send you some duck eggs for fun?? Just shoot me a few in shipping?

I've finally seen a Egyptian Goose in person! There was a feral one at the park today. They are stunning

. If they weren't so aggressive I'd love to keep a pair around.

. I so wish I would find someone locally who sells ornamental fowl. The only bird I've seen is the same Wood Duck that's been on for a few months.

Also I've had a sore throat all morning

. I hope it lets up by the weekend.

So, who has the next hatch due...?

I'm not the next hatch in the group, but my first gosling is supposed to hatch next Thursday/Friday. Then, I should have something hatching every week until I get tired of hatching.

These started yesterday.

Unfortunately, only 5 hatched. 3 blues Jersey Giants and 2 with the tan head which I'm assuming are Jersey Giant/Buff Orpington crosses. I found 2 shrink wrapped under her this morning.

So I got these for her. 5 black Jersey Giants. I'll put them under her tonight and

Love the little chick playing dead. The first time I saw chicks sleeping like that, it freaked me out really bad. Thought I had killed them all!

I've been using Hova 1588's and preset incukit thermostats for the past year. Learning to use the manual wafer thermostats is driving me up the wall. I'm assuming it will be calibrated by the end of the weekend.

Barred ROCKS! I wish I had some of the snappy comments you come up with!

I'll get some photos of the bator this weekend. I went back to CL and the post was gone. It's a GQF 1202 from about 1983.I may or may not make some modifications to it, depending on how much the wafer thermostats tick me off.

I want to come back for another auction soon. I'm waiting on $500 that's owed to me and then I'll actually have some spending money.

I miss you and I miss the roach coach tacos. The eggs are just a bonus.

My boss is going to give me all the test eggs I want. The deal is that I'm supposed to hatch babies for her once I get it set up and working ideally. So it's in her best interest to give me many, many eggs.

Did you candle your half of the duck eggs from auction last week? I only had four infertile which is pretty good for random auction eggs. Out of... 3 dozen? The goose egg is fertile and developing too! Haven't tried to candle all those dark-shelled chicken eggs yet. I can't find a candler bright enough to shine through those shells.
Also I've had a sore throat all morning

Sweet babies!

I guess I should go check the bator again. I'll probably lose a bit of weight going up and down the stairs every half hour until I have it steady.
