Going to put the saxony trio where the pekins
# 7 just hatched. I'm worried about it. It had started to zip, and then stopped for a while and the membrane shrink wrapped around it, I tried to keep it as damp as possible, but when I left to get my kids from school it dried out a bit. It was hatched finally when we got home, but the shell had dried onto the ducklings wing. I took a cloth with warm water on it and gently wiped till the shell and goo came off (kept it up under a heat lamp while I was doing this). It's umbilical cord looks a bit bloody, none of the others did. S/he's very active and vocal, so I'm hopeful that it will be ok. Is there anything I should do that I haven't? Also, this is the duckling that pipped on the small pointy side of the shell, instead of the end with the air cell. I think if this one makes it, we'll call it Lucky.
I'm so sorry about Baby Girl.Yes, sometimes (back when all my layer ducks were alive-pre dog attack) I would get little ping pong ball eggs. Usually they were dudes....no yolk, but now and then it would have a little tiny yolk. I like to feed those to my kids.
Baby Girl, the poor dog attack victem, died in her sleep the night I got home from Texas. (found her yesterday) Poor girl, she appeared to have simply expired in her sleep. I guess it was all just too much for the poor girl. The good news is I have lots of regular buff eggs coming in to replace her with, if I ever decide to set any. I just don't want to be up to my bum in goslings espeecially. I kind of like the 10 I have now (two trios and 2 pairs) but DH wants more buffs, but to eat them.
As you all know, once you've hatched and broodered them, (and goslings are soo sweet and affectionate) that its siimply bloody hard to consider such a thing.
Glad to see everyone else seems to be doing basically well. I've beenn gone since early last friday morning, and am just checking in today, after an exhausting 15 hour drive (in one day) back home from South Texas where I picked up a devestatingly awesome doeling, who's grandmother hold the milk production record for Nigerian Dwarf Goats. (Fawn, fron Jobi)
Aww. Little runners?
I usually put a dab of neosporin (without pain reliver, it's poison to ducks) on the belly button and send them to meet their hatchmates. Rarely any problems.# 7 just hatched. I'm worried about it. I have one that I hatched from the German lady on ebay. I have one that was a lucky find from Craigslist and the drake is also hatched from the German lady's eggs (I traded my WH ducklings for him). I need more genetics. I keep bidding on ebay eggs, but I'm too cheap, apparently.Where'd you get your Saxonys?
Just keep her clean.
Oh please! you can just turn by hand!!!I can't seem to get my hygrometer order to go through on incubatorwarehouse.com tonight!![]()
And I just discovered that what I thought was the third egg turner rack for my cabinet is actually a hatcher rack. Now to debate on whether or not to cough up for another turner rack.
Yep, little runners, and #7 is doing great. Thanks everyone!Aww. Little runners?![]()
