Buff ducks... 7 external pips ... my first ducky hatch

Congrats!

Well, #8 FINALLY hatched! It's the last of the eggs, so 8 out of 12 isn't too bad, right?

I have one that I hatched from the German lady on ebay. I have one that was a lucky find from Craigslist and the drake is also hatched from the German lady's eggs (I traded my WH ducklings for him). I need more genetics. I keep bidding on ebay eggs, but I'm too cheap, apparently.
I almost got some from Holderread's with my American goslings, but decided not to right now. I really like them. They're so pretty.

Christine/Quackers, JenC in northern Cali has Saxony hatching eggs and will ship. Not sure the cost, but I can find out.
Who is JenC? Is she on BYC?

Baby Girl, the poor dog attack victem, died in her sleep the night I got home from Texas. (found her yesterday) Poor girl, she appeared to have simply expired in her sleep. I guess it was all just too much for the poor girl. The good news is I have lots of regular buff eggs coming in to replace her with, if I ever decide to set any. I just don't want to be up to my bum in goslings espeecially. I kind of like the 10 I have now (two trios and 2 pairs) but DH wants more buffs, but to eat them.
Sorry about Baby Girl, Marty. Got you made it back from TX safe. Do you have pics of your Buff Dewlaps?

I don't really know anything about them. Where did you get them?

Oh, yeah - I forgot to mention - I have ducklings hatching! I wouldn't be surprised if I have a few out when I get home from work today. I think I should always time my hatches when I'm at work. That way I can't sit there and worry.

Also, I set 6 Seb eggs on Tuesday. My new incubator seems to have slight temp fluctuations, though. Will it hurt them much if the temp has gone between 99 and 100 degrees? I know the first 24 hours are pretty critical. I hope I don't have a bad hatch.

I can't seem to get my hygrometer order to go through on incubatorwarehouse.com tonight!

And I just discovered that what I thought was the third egg turner rack for my cabinet is actually a hatcher rack. Now to debate on whether or not to cough up for another turner rack.
Do you use a turner for your goose and duck eggs? I'd leave it for them, and use the racks with turners for chickens.

x2, Sorry Marty! I don't know how I missed that, how sad.

Yay for ducklings! Still air is supposed to be 102 at the top of the eggs, I think 100 should be ok even in circulated air. I keep mine at 101 at the top of the eggs even though I've added a fan because that seems to be the temperature they hatch best at for me.

The last 2 eggs I set from my goose are fertile!

Now I really need to get moving on another incubator, those goose eggs are going to fill up my little lg quick. And I got 2 brown eggs from my serama pen yesterday. My other pullet lays a whiter smaller egg, so I think my frizzle pullet started laying!

So I'll be setting more serama eggs to check fertility with hers soon.

Yep, little runners, and #7 is doing great. Thanks everyone!

Congrats Bakin, you are getting close now! I have a goose egg on day 28. It has been rocking/turning for 3 days and should internally pip sometime today.

I've probably got my hands full at the moment making sure the cabinet is reliable. Once I feel confident with it, then I can hatch some special eggs.

I use a turner for duck and chicken eggs and hand turn the goose eggs. Right now I'm hand-turning 3 dozen chicken/duck and probably 10 goose eggs. Trying to avoid having to hand-turn anything but the goose eggs. This is on top of the 84 in turners. And the dozen I haven't set because of space. And the 18 in lockdown.

I don't do things small. A lot of these are earmarked for customers or hatches for friends/family. And test eggs. I'm going to be lucky if I get to add 10 fuzzies to my flocks this year. And maybe, just maybe the icelandic chickens...

All my babies hatching now are going to new homes, too. In a couple months I'm going to get some eggs from Coyote Night, though, and I'm going to keep my favorites out of those eggs and sell the rest.

Thanks to the electric company and their need for immediate payment (due date was yesterday), they turned my power off today and it was off for several hours. The older ducklings were fine, they all huddled together for warmth, but the one that just hatched today was shivering. I took it out of the bator, wrapped it in a cloth then put it inside my shirt. I was wearing a shirt, sweatshirt, and two blankets to keep the poor thing warm. It's doing ok now, but I was really worried about it for a while there.

Hope everyone is having a better day than I am.

I had an excellent hatch last year from her eggs. Great quality birds!

I'd had more than my share of ducklings tucked down my shirt. Power outages, emergency rescues. Had two whose mom abandoned them left out in the rain. Two muddy, shivering ducklings down the shirt is a pretty stressful experience. I hope your day improves! That little baby will love you forever now!

So my 4 eggs that internally pipped never did externally and in my opinion either because my humidity gauge I found out was off or I didn't intervene early enough they were dead in the shell once I did intervene it was already to late. We had a little funeral also. I had already preordered eggs so I'm setting them tomorrow and I have two question......1) I don't have a forced air, I ordered a fan but if I set tomorrow I don't get my fan in the mail for a few days so when I candle on day 7 could my husband install the fan real quick or will the environment change hurt anything (or can I just lower the temp for the forced air)? And. 2) does anyone do dry incubation for duck eggs & if so did it increase your hatch rate?
