Hi jmpeters, ha panic mostly at the mo! I think we are going crazy. My incubator is on the coffee table in the lounge. Every tweet I hear be it from the tv or outside I think it's the ducks finally getting on with it, but no!

Nebraskagirl, I thought that too about lock down but a few people on this site said they don't go into lockdown until they know they've pipped internally as that's then when they can shrink wrap. From what I gather you don't really see anything with the internal pip but you start to hear them cheeping and pecking at the shell. I risked candling yesterday and this morning as I couldnt hear anything, and sure enough they are safely still within the main membrane grr. At least there was no chance of shrink wrapping. So if your quick and you are sure you can't hear anything then have a speedy look.
At least that's my understanding so any one feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
I'm hatching 5 Indian runners but yep nothing much is going on with them, just slightly rocking shells. Still no noises. I already have 1 Cayuga, 1 Aylesbury and they have a daughter. The 2 are 18 months and kiddo is a year. Only had them for a few weeks, I don't think the poor things had much interaction with people as they were terrorfied. Getting there slowly though. Do you have any already?

And movement in both eggs. We just noticed this two hours ago and now I CANNOT STOP STARING.

I don't hear anything, just some movement of eggs. No more progress on the crack. I guess that means they have pipped internally? Or externally? I am so confused. What do I do? Nothing? I am more nervous about this than when I was in labor myself. Pass the chocolate and bacon.......

Lol ya I talk to them too. They listen as good as my gf tho. I tell them 10 times a day to hatch already but noooo. Ive gone thru quit a bit of ice cream standing there watching them like somethings going to magically happen.

I hatched 3 girl Dewlap Africans sooooo cute ! ~ Will be a busy day at auction this weekend, bringing a bunch of babies in! You can't come down until I have sebbies to trade for your poms !

hatching is a blast, and there is nothing like seeing a little pip & zip !

Fingers crossed that my feed lasts long enough so that I don't have to come down before you have those sebbies. But I'll probably end up needing to fill bators again before then. We shall see. I'm down to 3/4 of a 55 gallon drum and those meaties of mine eat way too much!

It is not uncommed for waterfowl to not even pip on day 28. My geese seem to pip day 29 and hatch day 30 and 31. You should candle and see if the air sac is tipped strongly yet, and if you even see a little beak shadow working around after internal pipping (into the air sac). That will tell you if there is any expected progress or not. Progress is what your after....and a dab of patience. LOL.

My ducks always seem to want to come early. The geese are always ploddingly, predictably right on time. I had an early lockdown tonight because while I was chillin' in the hatching room with neighbors, I found unexpected pips.

I absolutely ALWAYS DO THIS ALWAYS! I also, with goose eggs, set them out to cool for 15-30 minutes every evening. You should read Petes hatching guide, it is also excellent. I spray my duck and goose eggs 2x a day. I just keep a sprayer right there, and give everyone a nice even misting. In a hovabator full, that's about 6 or 7 sprays on fine mist.

Just thought I'd share a quick photo of my assistant who volunteered to test the coop I'm building. You know, between chewing on my hair and begging to be picked up.

What do u all do while your waiting for the eggs to hatch? Ive got 8 days left for my 12 silver appleyards. My first hatch and Im going nuts! The anticipation is killong me. My incubator is in the midldle of the house so I walk by it 20 times a day. I stop and stare like it helps. Lol

Whatever you do, don't stay up for 72 hours watching your eggs like someone I know tried to do. I think I literally got 3 hours of sleep that first 48 hours of my first hatch.

I was so much hoping I don't need to come to this forum for advice as I've been reading every material I could since putting my eggs in the incubator... I am a first timer though and full of worries.
Hatch day is tomorrow noon (7 am here in UK now) a

nd 3 of my ducks have made a tiny crack into their shells at the right places. 2 last night but one has been like this for more than 24 hours now and i'm rather worried as now i can see a slight discolouring on the shell a bit above the chipping. Would it be too late to try and help this little guy out as for so long it hasn't been able to actually pip and breathe? The others haven't pipped properly yet either, just chipped their shells. I am worried about not having enough humidity in the bator as the water level is going down quite fast and the evaporatin water is leaking out at the edges (it's a Brinsea Mini Advance) even though I taped it around.
I'm also worried that i'll cause some problems to the other two that chippef by opening the lid and taking this one out.
Please any advice would be sooo appreciated...

Hiya, I'm the UK too so someone else to talk to while the other's are snoring heheee.
It could just be as the colouring is do close to the chip that it's gone into a little blood vessel maybe? Do not have any way of adding more water without opening it up fully? You can't go through a vent or something? At the moment I'm having to use a straw and a funnel and aim for the container in my homemade one I bought.
I wouldnt worry about the others, my ducks were due yesterday and I'm only just seeing a tiny chip on one of my 5 and some slightly twitching eggs. Some are slower than others.

I think this may be a race then! One of mine has made a tiny chip, typically on the side I can't see! I got some twitchy eggs and a few peeps and cheeps!
Sounds like yours are on to the external pips now and they were just very quiet on the internal ones. Though if only one has a chip like mine then the others have still only done the internal pip into the sir sac. Don't do anything apart from keep the humidity high! Try talking to them, or quacking, or tab the sides of the 'bator - I just did and one of mine went nuts! I reckon your guna beat me actually!

Thanks for the quick response. This one's already gone :-( the discoloration is even bigger now, it's clearly dead. I'm feeling guilty for not doing anything, it was chirping loudly last night.
Funnily enough the humidity seems to have gone up a bit as now i have condensation on the window. Unfortunately I can't out any water in it without opening clearly a big flaw o the incubator but i've read such good reviews.

How many eggs are you incubating? If they chip but unable to pip how long after would you (if at all) try to open the shell for them?

This is more stressful than i thought i wanted my kids to witness duckling hatch but not a ceasarean..
