Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Six very nice pips.. STILL no yellow fuzzies!! LOL!! two more to pip- SURELY I'll get to see at least a couple hatch. If it all happens while I'm at work, hubby won't give them nearly the welcome they deserve after all this torture they're giving me!! :D

Haha I'm not sure blokes get as excited as we do. Though mine is abit miffed that our ducklings come when I call them and follow me but not him. But I've spent a lot more time with them! Hope your babies hang on for you!

Haha! He was actually gone all day long (hence the hatching lol).. Two were out when he got home, I made him text me a pic. Then he was working outside til I got home, when I found the third one was out as well. So far I'm leaving them in the bator. They are very calm babies compared to my last hatch! They stir a bit if I look in on them, otherwise they are just cuddling. :)

Here they are.. two of the pekins and the lone Mallard. So five more Pekins on the way.

AND! Can I say how PROUD of myself I am, that I have not even laid a FINGER on the bator.

My bator went into lockdown on Sunday morning and the babies aren't due to hatch until Friday, although one had a small chip in it - didn't think much would happen this week!!
Last eggs I hatched were Silkie chickens and they went 5 days overdue!!
So imagine my surprise when I came in from college last night and there was a baby duck bopping around!
Seems fit & healthy, I woke up to watch the little thing sleep at 3am (Is it only me who finds this slightly hypnotic)
So I've had a morning bathing my limping Daisy Duck, fed the new baby who's now having a nap, finally sat down to get my own dinner and out pops another one!!!
6 more to go - I hope the others hatch just as easily as these first two - I'm now obsessively watching the bator

So today is day 19 for my first ever hatch! I'm so excited and can't wait for them to get here. The fan went in my bator last night and I was so worried this would mess with the eggs but when I candled tonight I saw movement in all the eggs. I have a question though. How exactly do you go into lockdown. I've heard people say to turn the temp down and others say leave it alone. And what about humidity? What should that be on? I'm doing a dry hatch so to speak not sure if I followed it right or not but my humidity has been about 20 to 30% since day one. How high should it be for lock down. And how do I know if I need to help or not? I'm doing the split shift that day so I'll be home for a Lil bit during the day.

My hubby calls me at work every time one hatches. It gets old when there's 35 in lockdown. We had 110 chicken eggs locked down last week, it was a wonder I got anything done.

I don't dry hatch here, so hopefully someone else can pop in and give you advice. Remember that will the fan out, you're going to have hot spots and cold spots. Make sure to move the eggs around the bator a bit.
