Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

lol carcar @ "stranger danger" too funny!!

question: i'm on day 7 .... is it safe to take clear eggs from bator??? or should i give it till day 10... seems like all the fertile ones are really easy to tell, but i don't wanna lose anyone... "no duck left behind" sorta thing i guess....

Here is a pic of where I helped the dried out one a bit. I tried to do more of a "zip" pattern, in hopes that once he is feeling strong enough he can maybe just pop the top of the shell off like he would have naturally. Looks like he's still absorbing from those veins too, but I didn't do anything that brought blood. My "artificial zip" doesn't go any further than where the towel blocks your view.

You can see that the membrane on the other is still white where this one is yellow and very rubbery. It is more yellow than shows in this pic, and the part that was covering where you can now see his face was even darker yellow. So I didn't do anything to help the other, I'll just watch and see what happens.

And on a lighter note, here a shot from the little box of cuteness next to the bator. I'm calling this shot, "STRANGER DANGER!!!"

LOL!!
Looks like you did what I would have done.

What sweet babies. Suck scaredy ducks, though!

I put 38 eggs in the bator & they just started hatching last night. I took these 6 out this afternoon as things were getting pretty crowded and they were the rowdiest. Looks like I'll have at least 8 more to keep these company in the morning. Baby chickens are cute, but ducklings are at the top of the cute meter.

Too cute. They're made that way so we'll tolerate their mud-making habits.

I wait until day 10... unless I'm backed up on eggs, which hopefully won't happen again this year. I need to learn to control myself at auction.

I locked down 35 two nights ago. 15 little duckies out and more coming.

The assisted baby is halfway out! Just got up and he's got the top off the egg just like I had hoped and he's about halfway out!

The other looks fantastic- the shell is all cracked to about the size of a nickel and is very crumbly-looking like a normal shell (as opposed to a dry membrane) so it doesn't look like it will need any help at all.

Wwwwhhheeewwwww!! :clap

Edit: he's out!! Looking fantastic! And the last baby is fighting like mad now.. Won't surprise me if it's out before I leave for work!

Congrats carcar, glad to hear your little ones have made it!!
I took your advice last night, went to bed & left the eggs alone. Was woken at 4am by the babies having their feed so couldn't resist a peek - one of them had bust its way out but exhausted and the other one was halfway out. So had 2 more babies this morning

Just 3 eggs left now, no ducks showing yet but official hatch date isn't until tomoz so will wait and see.
After my last attempt at hatching (silkie chicks) only got one chick out of 20 eggs, I'm over the moon that we've got 5 healthy, happy babies and these seem so much cuter than the chick!!

My other baby did hatch before I left. In fact, by the time I got ou of the shower after posting about it! Ha!! So, I was eight hatched for eight SET on this hatch. Wow!! :clap

S&J.. Fantastic. Isn't it just like Christmas every morning during a hatch!? LOL

I have a question for the call duck experts. Can you help me to determine what colors my babies will be, I purchased them from a lady who saved me various colors to hatch but didnt seperate out which was which so I'm a bit at a loss. Also is there a way to sex a call duck baby besides the obvious vent sexing, I havent done that before and worry about hurting them if I do it. Thank you in advance for all your help.

Michelle

Quackrrs I hope everything's good your way!
Got 19 out of 35. As with my chick hatch last week, we had a power interruption mid-incubation and the bators got down to 77 for a short time. I'm happy with what I got.

I've got a couple chicken eggs, 6 goose eggs and two more duck eggs locked down. One duck pipped, two chicks pipped, geese will come when they get around to it. My goose eggs are the only thing that seems to hatch right on schedule, if not a bit late.
