welllll happy birthday! good thing you caught that, my babies are done....have 8 altogether... all of them got out on their own except the first one and the last two...one died in the shell after pipping, i knew he was getting a little weaker vocally but i was working on a breach baby. had to chip almost all of the shell away to find his face..poor little guy. i hate it that i lost one so late i just couldn't get to him in time....i'm exhausted tho....
Congrats on your 8 babies! Sometimes you can't save them all, but just hug those little ones and spoil them rotten!
Hello I am new to the duck scene and very excited.. I do wish I had found this link sooner because I have had difficulty in finding information on hatching ducks.. I have 11 Blue Swedish Ducks in the incubator, and due to go into lockdown May 23.. so excited.. I am hoping I have done things correctly.. The gentleman I received the eggs from told me he does not mist and I seem to be reading differently.. Should I mist them now????? Humidity is holding around 50,,, Any information would be appreciated Thank you...
It really depends on your climate, type of incubator and preference. I mist mine, but only if I open the bator for something else.
Yayyyyyyyyyyy! So happy for you! Two of my runners looked the brown in the middle and they are just feathering out and look like female mallard colouring. But could turn out different with calls. I know yellow goes white!
Happy birthday!!! Hope your having a lovely day. How's the lil blind ducky doing?
Blind ducky has a double tear-duct infection. Nasty stuff. I hate to medicate them so young. I had to get all the pus out earlier. Hella ick. Poor thing. She just swelled up overnight.
all 8....yay!

Poor ducky. Do you think it will make it in the long term? Good on you for giving it a chance.

Poor little duckling, hope it gets better soon!

I had 2 goslings hatch yesterday. One pipped at the wrong end of the egg, so I ended up helping the little guy out. I think he got stuck trying to maneuver around since he was at the wrong end, duh silly goose, that's why you are supposed to try to get out at the big end, lol. Once I got it opened enough he came wriggling out fast as could be.
Have more ducklings hatching, slowly, lol. I had 3 internal pips last night, so maybe I'll have some new ducklings tomorrow.

ou thats so exciting! I miss lil cute fuzzy butts already. My little one's butt's aren't fuzzy anymore :(

I'm trying to bond little blind baby with another duckling so it can help little one get around. Of course, the avian vet recommended euthanasia... I'm going to give it another week to see if its eye infection issues clear up with treatment. I hate, hate, hate having to put down ducklings.

I was shocked. The only wrong-way gosling I had this year hatched itself. I was all prepared to help when I got home from work, but it had freed itself.

Fingers crossed for hatchlings!

Okay, so my first shipped duck eggs arrived today! What do I need to do to prepare them for the incubator? Do they need to sit big end up like chicken eggs? What temp and humidity should I have them at? I read to turn them by hand and end-over-end 3 times a day. These are Welsh Harlequin eggs :)

Ou exciting! First off rest them for at least 24 hours. Incubator should be 37.5 degrees and about 50 %humidity. Yup turn end over end at least 3 times a day and I just had mine laying down flat some people do it with the fat end slightly elevated. W.H. are very pretty. how many eggs do you have?

I paid for 12 ands she sent 18!

Another question though, all of the air cells are wiggly. Do I need to set them big end up without turning for any certain amount of time?

ouu have no idea about wiggly air cells im afraid apart from that they can be a bad thing. I know some other people on here had wiggles and they still hatched. Hopefully someone else will chip in soon.

stating the obvious have you googled it? that normally brings you back onto this site anyway, would just take you to the right thread.
