Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Peas are the favorite of most ducks, but some ducks are picky eaters just like some people. Maybe picky duckies would prefer some romaine lettuce?

We've had stretches in here where it was impossible to keep up. Please check back and hang out with us. We're an interesting group and there's usually something hatching somewhere.

What kind of ducklings are you hatching?
I have calls, which after reading this thread, scares me. If it doesn't go well, I'll hope for my girl setting next year. She's already done laying this year.
I also have a few mixed or not lol. One of our flocks is made up of 4 rouens, 2 khakis and 2 mallards. So not sure what they'll be.

dang it! I hope they miraculously appear!

How are you doing GQ?
Hanging in there. Work has been insane this week, had inspectors in for annual certifications. Feeling a little empty... like my incubators.

But hey, it's going to be a great rest of the week. Got the hassles and insanity done early!

Hey Chikas !! Been very busy hatching, brooding, cleaning, mowing!

Here are my pics from yesterday!

Now THATS a Soggy Bottom! Fattie Dewies!

That's some army of youngsters you've got there!

I've got a hankering for some taco truck this weekend...

Aww. I love calls, but I need to stop adding breeds.

Ok, another question! 2 of my Welsh Harlie eggs are on day 17 and I worry the aircells aren't big enough. They are in a Brinsea mini, and until yesterday I was following the directions to put water in one side of the bator. However, with that the humidity is 60+%...

Would it be a good or bad idea to dry incubate? With no water in there the humidity is about 16-25%, but the RH of the room the incubator is in is 50%. I have been turning them end over end and cooling/misting them since day 10.

Side note, 13/18 of my shipped Wellies are looking great! Today is day 10 for them :D

I have the same incubator here in Olympia and I've been keeping the wells dry until hatch time. The air seems to be humid enough without adding water.

We had some baby bunny drama over the weekend...

Then it was incubator drama. Followed closely by mass incubator cleaning...

The incubator cleaning having been necessitated by these little cuties...

Oh, look, a Saxony duckling!

My juvies...

I'm kinda new to this site, so when I got an email saying i hadn't been on for a while I clicked the link to this thread.
I read about 5 or 6 pages before realizing it starts at the beginning....like two years ago. By then I just had to know how those turned out. About 70 pages later I clicked to come to the end.
I would have been here all day!
What a thread! It's like a sitcom, drama, lifetime movie all wrapped into one.
You're happy, you're sad. So much going on!

Very helpful too!
Although, my sis was the first to tell me about her ducks loving peas. Mine will not eat them, at all!
dunno why? fussy??

I have ducks due to hatch in about 3/4 days. :D
mine won't eat whole peas...i have to smash them then they go wild!

so you took the baby bunnies??? lol, just what you need....more babies! i have a baby that looks like you pic of the saxony duckling....do i need to google that...to see what it looks like grown?? i am dying to know what my babies will look like grown up....i know they are a mix-n-match group nothing pure at all... but i don't care, they are pets! beautiful pics!

When we bought this new incubator, we got our first duck egg of the year on the same day. I put it in and left it, other than checking the temp on occasion. Can't say I really expected it to be fertile or even hatch so no worries. The day before it was due to hatch, I heard Mr. Magoo (girl), yelling and wanting out. She was completely hatched and partially dry.

Now with eggs coming upon their due date, I am a nervous wreck!!

The bunnies went to a wildlife rescue. We would have tried to reunite them with their mom, but after hours, we were worried enough to turn them over to the rescue.

Found them mowing the yard. I doubt they would have survived right by the road where mom decided to nest.

Aww, sweet baby! I always find it easier to deal with hatching if I'm too busy to watch them constantly.

A nice woman directed me to a hatch day thread. I think she meant this one?
Anyone around? I have a pip and I'm freaking out :D

PS: today is the due date!
