Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

I still haven't caught up on reading the thread, but those sure look cute and sound tasty too.

You'll probably have a LOT of reading to do. We've been particularly chatty lately

I think so. I like mine, she's cute but she's a crappy layer. She laid eggs for about a month before she quit for the winter. Everyone else is back to laying but not her.

I think it's also the fun in bringing home a chick/ hatching one that you have no idea what it'll look like once it's grown. Kind of why I like my mutts. It's fun.

Dumb question: Do you eat the eggs? Like, do they look and taste the same?

Yep, can't tell the difference between any of them once they are out of the shell. I got her because when I had my LF hens I was selling eggs to help pay for all the food those big girls ate. Brown eggs or a mix of brown, a few green and white sell the best and for the most. Eating eggs are easy to sell around here. I had a lady who would meet me once every few weeks and buy all the eggs I had, about 5-6 dozen a time. I only charged her 2 a dozen because she bought all of them so I didn't have to mess with anyone else, and she brought egg cartons each time.

My husband is selling his truck since he has a company truck now... So, if I can sell it, I can get more eggs. That's the deal. So guess who just added a FB listing. That would be me.

I have a guy that buys mine too. Chicken Jose is what I call him. I had to take my ad down because I couldn't keep up with everybody wanting eggs. Hopefully that won't be a problem in 6 months. (I give free eggs to all my neighbors and family.)

Are you sure your silkie is keeping them warm enough? You might want to brood your next ones inside yourself. I'm not trusting my silkie with any more until it's warmer. Sorry about your chickie.

If you want EE bantams I'd just get a bantam americauna cockerel and cross it with whatever bantam breed you want. EE's are mutts, not a breed really, so you can make your own.
