I used pine shavings with paper towels over top for about 2 weeks, just till I knew he wouldn't try eating the shaving.

I will have to go to using the pine shavings I hate straw. Is that what you use for your adult ducks house too?

no i use grass hay... but im thinking about changing it because my goat think its a buffet just for them

I also use pine shavings but I have a terry cloth over the top for a couple days until they get their footing.

My little guy is now in the brooder (which is a tub Btw)

Beeker doesn't seem interested right now in the new one. She is sleeping and I'm not sure if she's going to make it. Sleeping alot!

How is yours?

Sleeping and resting alot is fairly normal for the first 24-48 hours. It's good that Beaker is not too interested just at the moment.

I use old bath towels in my brooder. Good footing and nothing for them to eat.

One more stop to pick up the babies cuddly toy. Then I will mix up the psave a chick and probably use an eyedropper to get some in him

I use pine shaving in my duck and chickens coops, I just keep building it up till it's about 12" deep then I scoop out the nasty stuff on top, use a pitch fork and turn it all over. I only have to clean about half out in the spring becaue I also use lime to help break down the poop. Mixed real good into the shavings. Then I start to build again. don't get the fine shavings though get the flake.

What makes you think it isn't going to make it QJ? like 70% said sleeping alot is normal. Hatching is hard work.

I know it should be tired.. It just has some labored breathing. So instead of getting my hopes up, I'll set myself up for the disappointment.

Is it close enough to hear Beaker making noise? that may be just what it needs is to hear it's brother or sissy next to it. Not in the same brooder but where it can hear another duckling. might be worth a try.
