Thanks for the welcome, Jazmine. :) Sorry to hear about your cayuga duckling. This egg was the smallest of the bunch that were originally set, but I'd like to think of it as a fighter, as it has somehow managed to develop in spite of all my beginner mistakes that quickly killed the other eggs.

Welcome Iain!
Sorry about your cayuga Jaz.
DG the monsters went to their nonni's. She does daycare and since they don't have school tomorrow they went over there to stay the night and play with the kids tomorrow except the little one, who's home because she's still sick.

OMG! julie! their so cute! how old are your duckies now?

Well, i will never use a broody hen EVER again! althought i do feel bad.

heres the story.

i got so sick of the smell the mama hen made so i put them out with my moms RIRS.... VERY bad idea! Mama hen finally found her BF and they were hanging out (silkie roo) and she abandoned her chicks! so i went in the get a box to put the chicks in since mama didnt want them, and i came back out, and there was only one chick! i ran all over the place looking for the other and found a pile of small black feathers! MY CAT ATE MY CHICK! i was so mad at myself! i never even thought about the cat eating them! UUURRRRGGGG!!!!!! so now i have one lone chick in need of a buddy! what do i do?! hes pretty friendly to. hes sitting here on my lap while i type.... kinda mad at the mama chicken to! she beat up her own baby!

(well, it isnt hers, but she did take care of them!)

URG!

oh, and welcome Iain Utah

What do you think of this !

The eggs in this auction are from birds i hatched from eggs from Greenfire farm. THIS IS STEP 1
Here’s how the color genetics work for lemon cuckoo Orpingtons: When we think of “pure” lemon cuckoo Orpingtons we usually envision the bright yellow color and dramatic white barred feather pattern that is the signature of this variety. This color and pattern exists only in roosters that carry two barring genes. A “pure” lemon cuckoo hen carries only one barring gene and so the females appear to be a light buff color without obvious barring.
Roosters that carry only one barring gene are colored like the hens. They are a light buff color without the prominent white barring effect.
When you see pictures of lemon cuckoo Orpingtons you are almost always looking at roosters with two barring genes, for it is these birds that have the bright yellow feathers and classic cuckoo barring pattern.

Here is the recipe for creating “pure” lemon cuckoo roosters with the two barring genes.
Step 2: The chicks you produce from this mating should (over a large number of eggs) be about 25% “pure” lemon cuckoo roosters; 25% roosters with one barring gene (they will appear to be a light buff color); and 50% hens, all with the single barring gene.
Step 3: If you breed the “pure” lemon cuckoo roosters with any of the hens, 100% of the male chicks you produce will be “pure” (with two barring genes) lemon cuckoo roosters and the females will also carry the lemon cuckoo gene. You are now producing 100% “pure” lemon cuckoo Orpingtons

Sorry about your chick. Maybe let her hatch her own chicks next time and see if she takes better care of them? I haven't ever tried putting chicks under a broody, just eggs so I don't know if that makes a difference. How old are is your chick? Maybe post a wanted ad on craigslist to see if anyone has a chick around it's age to keep it company? You can always sell it when yours is big enough to go with everyone else.
The ducklings will be a week old tomorrow. I think I'm going to fill up the bathtub later and let them take their first swim.
