Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

WTH? I thought I'd posted on here a few times already today. I hate this BYC!!!!!
Ok, good morning SM! Lol, you can sure talk a lot. Now I can't remember anything I thought I posted. I didn't win my silkie eggs. I saved the seller so I'll try again soon. If not, there is a good breeder about an hour north of me. I think I might email her to ask how much a good quality white silkie pair from her would be, but then I still have to wait months and months until one's available.
CG- Go to the goose thread. At the top in the stickies there's a waterfowl incubation guide that's been lots of help. I think scovie eggs are pretty difficult to incubate in a bator. I've read someone asking a question about saggy butt ducks before and I think it's normal. I'd think they should start laying soon, so that could be right. Yay! Are you hatching some of their eggs once they start?
Ok, going to try posting again, hope it shows up this time!

ill go check it out.
and its ok, there will be pekin and hopefulyl mallard eggs to (she said the mallards are good at hiding them so she doesnt find very many of them)
boy they better start laying soon. itl be my luck ill get these eggs and they will start laying!
yes im going to hatch call eggs. and im enlisting the help of our cochins as well , they just don't know it yet =)
im hopinh theres a good demand for them in my area. im going to sell babies, eggs (maybe). and im going to sell pairs in the fall.

He is looking so much better today... and then the fight. Having to possibly get rid of him is the reason the blue drake never got a name.

CG: I actually read something last night that said you should leave them in a carton big end up for 24 hours. It was some hatching sight. I'll try to find it again.

Hey peeps! Where's Evelle? She was creepin' around last night but never posted! I saw her name in the little creeper box to the right.

And I'm now officially worried about DG.

Mallards are definitely good at hiding eggs! When I found my first eggs they had laid them in a hole they dug and then covered them up. It was crazy! There were 20 eggs in that pile.

sm you crack me up! err.. excuse me i mean quack me up! =D
ok my eggspert friends. i need a few questions answered since hopefully by friday i will be getting eggs of my own! FINALLY!!

1.) in the egg carton, (for transport) bigg end up, or little end?
Pointy end down always for eggs no matter for eatting or hatching.
2.) does it matter which way on their side they lay in the incubator, i thought i once seen sumthin bout a certain end towards the front?
We incubate standing up, pointy end down. At lock down sometimes laying on their sides.
4.) so im appreantly getting a mix og eggs, and since muscovies take longer, is that gona be an issue?
Yes it can because the Scovy will need to be turned while you are in lockdown on the other eggs. Running a seperate hatcher or two bators would be better.
and i forgetting anything? i had more questions but forget now. gota love that . i was layin in bed thinkin when i get up im going to ask the girls about this, and this, and this.

i know the humidity, and temp.
turning , cooling, and misting.

ohh and questions bout the big little ducks (haha ) the black bibbed hen looks like her back end is gettin kinda saggy.
a sign shes gettin ready to lay?? (we have having oddly warm weather for this time of year)
none of the other hens look this way. and she didnt last time i checked either, until today.

wow lol.
i guess thats one downfall to free ranging ducks,.

i was hoping to get mostly mallard eggs. since they are green i would of used a few for crafts.
maybe she will find a nest.
she must not be having issues collecting them.
at night and in the early morning its pretty chilly right now. enough so that if we dont find our chicken eggs they freeze and bust.
but daytime temps have been in the 40's
one of our crazy chickens was trying to sit on 1 egg yesterday. i think shes a little mixed up.

I had one hen lay off white eggs (oblong shape) , and one hen lay a slightly blue tinted egg (more round). Quite convenient when trying to tell them apart. Never got any green eggs though. I'm anxious to see what I get when Beaker starts to lay.
