Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

So............... you guys know about my trading a dewlap pair the other day to get two scovie girls and a new goose......... well........ I called my friend this afternoon and told him I was too attached to let my dewlaps go, so I am picking them up tomorrow and paying him for the 3 birds I got from him.

Yeppers I have sold quite a few poultry there.
You can sell anything there! Literally..... Now all you do is have a no reserve & get what you get, or you can have a minimum $ & if no one hits your minimum you take your goods back home, it is of no cost to you if you take them home. But if you sell there is a commission. You are welcome to come down, we will try and do a get together with GoinQuackers too! Or you can come down & just hang out with me....
YES there is a livestock auction here too

WARNING can be habit forming & addicting
I second the warnings about the auction. If I wasn't near two hours away, I'd be there every weekend!

Today was a big day here... birds left and new birds came. I wound up with an extra gander in my dewlap yard and my production Toulouse, Chicory, was left as the odd man out. Plus, we suffered our 1st loss the other day. One of our blue scovie girls disappeared in daytime without a trace. The remaining blue girl got really depressed as the other ducks would not accept her.

So I traded a pair of dewlaps with my rescue sanctuary friend for a white fronted goose and two scovie girls. The goose is very sweet and Chicory instantly began pairing up with her. And, our blue scovy girl is thrilled to have new friends. I was bummed to see another pair of dewlaps leave, but pleased that our lonely gander and scovy girl are happy now.

We got back late and I rushed to take pics, so they are really bad. But here they are, our new goose "Beignet" and Chicory saying hello for the first time.

And our blue girl with her new buddies:
Nice new additions!

Hey Mrs Fluff ! You are going to be busy! I got my eggs from Lisa & DuckDogs!

Utah NICE !!! Glad you got harmony back in your flock
Ohiki eggs!!! If I kept chickens, I'd be begging you for some ohiki eggs!

I think I may have done the same. I've got a friend asking for spare drakes for slug control. And I don't want to get rid of any. Only when there's harmony in the flock do people come looking for spare drakes.

And of course, I forgot to mention that my first hatch day of the year is about a week away! Got 7 of 12 welsh harlequins looking good. Two clear, three blood rings. Friend has a new drake this season, so good to know he's doing his job.

Great news!

Thanks! Hubby is not too happy with me.... but oh well. What's two more geese when we already have 30, eh?

Yay Quackers. Best of luck for a great hatching next week!!

that is true
Our guys are just the reverse! We have to beg and plead them to help us...usually we end up doing it ourselves and it turns out looking awful! LOL They have helped us with a lot of stuff...don't get me wrong, but not without complaining. When they start to complain we just tell them if they don't want to help, that's fine, but we aren't going to have time to fix their supper because we'll be building the pens instead. They usually come around. ; )

Aww, thanks. Lil Chocolate duck is a real cutie..but she is as wild as a march hare! LOL
I like both the smooth and curly Sebbies...they are all so lovely!
love.gif
Honey, if there is anyway I could get some goslings or eggs from you..that would be amazing! Where did you get your start in Sebbies from? If you end up rehoming your curly Sebs..please let me know. I would probably be interested in some or all of them! Where are you located?

What prices do you usually get for day-old chicks/ducklings?
Enabler????! LOL

and cool new stall
Thanks! I got a better pic of her this morning. She is teeny next to my big grey dewlap girl:
love.gif

My sebbies (0ne of them) laid her first egg today. I went over and checked the white africans and toulouse, but only the sebbie is laying.

I'll take it! I guess I'd better get an incubater going, to test fertility. (and I don't really mind doing a little HATCHING though)
wee.gif

Thanks!! We have a few minor wrinkles to work out, but overall the flock is breaking up into cute little pairs all over the yard, which makes me happy. By the by.... I broke down and let my big 2yo buff boy be with my small 1yo buff girl. She is getting ready to lay and her eggs will be fertile...........
yay! do dewalps prefer pairs over trios? i might be getting some toulouse (not dewalp but a stepping stone and middle ground with hubby lol) and i was thinking about getting a trio, should i just get 2 pairs?

i was kinda wondering how long it would be lol

yeah i would be scared if i had that many that close, but even once a month or even every 2 I would love to go to one and would even travel the 2 hours even to just look around

what is 2 more, i once snuck 12 chicks into my brooder and hubby didn't notice

Hey Bakin, great string quote reply.
frow.gif

My dewlaps have formed very distinct pairs. I expect a high testosterone 2-3yo gander could cover 2 girls, but my high drive 2yo buff gander seems to only have eyes for his one girl.
