and the news of the day is......... Josephine is a girl

she layed this morning

Hoping I get a good hatch ~ sell most all of them (maybe I might keep 3-4) And make enough money to feed my birds for the summer. My feed went from 17 cents a pound to 21 cents. I still get 1,000 pounds for $210. So if I could get 30-40 to hatch sell them sexed pairs or Trio's ~ I might do okay. I am not going to sell straight run anymore. I know we are getting $15 straight run a gosling here on CL. So these should be hatching at prime springtime for Goosey & Duckie Spring Fever!

I also am not planning on setting any of my sebbie eggs, so if anyone wants some let me know, I was going to just Ebay them all this year. I do not want any more sebbies, I was told by everyone here I can't eat them

You can eat those sebbies. I'm sure they taste just the same as other geese. Soon, you will have rotisserie emu, too!

Another Egg Walk of Shame

One duck egg, and My reliable 3 Brahma Hens gave me my 3 Chicken Eggs

I think I need to do what I did before when they didn't lay..... I threatened to eat them

10 duck eggs and a goose egg today. They're ramping up, but my boys aren't doing their jobs. Only the cayugas are fertile so far.

just setting the bator up for incubation. I need to disinfect my hova bator to for lockdown for them. btw got my eggs tonight!

Hi all.

RG - Sebbies are indeed edible, but most people object to eating ornamental birds. They are valuable enough that you could trade one for 3 or 4 adult regular varieties, and eat even more geese. Once I've filled my sebbie egg orders, I'm going to sell my others on ebay or here.

I have about 12 sebbie eggs on my counter now that both girls are laying. One lays smaller eggs though, maybe 20% smaller. She's also 2 monthes younger, she was my last goose hatch of last year.

I'm going to be setting my goosie eggs tonight or tomarrow a.m., and some ancona eggs too from my girls (one of which absolutely has a curly tail).

What is everyone else sitting? I know what RG has, but what are the rest of you doing?

No, one of yours was. No tag on one of the girls (I checked at NPIP testing) but the other three have metal tags.

Up to over 2 dozen goslings hatched now including this weeks 6/6 with 5/6 being girls, 3 doz ducklings and countless chickens.
Oddly enough the brooders are fairly empty except for the rare breed import chickens growing out and a gosling we are keeping.

I was disappointed to loose any geese at all, but I'm sure you know that.

I have nothing in the bater, and nothing in the brooders either.

yeah I hope the dog owners are going to pay you for the damages, deaths and your emotional losses. With your new goat investments this year you should really look at a live stock guard dog. We wont ever be without ours, and the newest boy is able to be with all the animals already at 10 months old. He is with the 3 year old though which makes a difference.

Glad our brooders are sorta empty since the current cabinets are maxed out and we have 14 more goose eggs to set today. Luckily the new hatcher/incubator is done and being picked up this week. it can hatch 120 goose eggs. Which is good too since we have a new adult grey paid of dewlaps on their way
