Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

I got my first white African goose egg this morning.

Poor thing got the egg pretty bloody. I expect it is because it weighs 146grams. She laid it in my brown African's nest. Hope they all decide to lay in the same nest. It will make collecting eggs really easy!

Of course, I quickly popped it into the bator with the eggs I set last night.

Hi all.

RG - Sebbies are indeed edible, but most people object to eating ornamental birds. They are valuable enough that you could trade one for 3 or 4 adult regular varieties, and eat even more geese. Once I've filled my sebbie egg orders, I'm going to sell my others on ebay or here.

I have about 12 sebbie eggs on my counter now that both girls are laying. One lays smaller eggs though, maybe 20% smaller. She's also 2 monthes younger, she was my last goose hatch of last year.

I'm going to be setting my goosie eggs tonight or tomarrow a.m., and some ancona eggs too from my girls (one of which absolutely has a curly tail).

What is everyone else sitting? I know what RG has, but what are the rest of you doing?
Hey Marti! How deep is the snow your way? getting deep here fast and it didn't start snowing till about 8:30.
Bator ummm Buckeye's go into lock down tonight.... Icelantics due the 3rd of March and I just put Buff Ducks in yesterday.. This will be my 1st EVER duck hatch

yeah I hope the dog owners are going to pay you for the damages, deaths and your emotional losses. With your new goat investments this year you should really look at a live stock guard dog. We wont ever be without ours, and the newest boy is able to be with all the animals already at 10 months old. He is with the 3 year old though which makes a difference.

Glad our brooders are sorta empty since the current cabinets are maxed out and we have 14 more goose eggs to set today. Luckily the new hatcher/incubator is done and being picked up this week. it can hatch 120 goose eggs. Which is good too since we have a new adult grey paid of dewlaps on their way

can't wait to see pictures of the new greys

RG - Do you want to incubate some of my Ancona eggs? I want to make sure they are developing before I sell any, but I don't want any ducklings yet.

Only if you bring them to auction and have lunch with me !

When should you all be getting warmer weather?

Good luck with the duckies

Try to let them do their thing .... Remember they are as SLOW as Cold Molasses ! I have never had buff ducks, but have seen them and are really pretty birds. I have hatched buckeyes, and they sold really well, but never the Icies or the Buffs. Can't wait to see pics

Are you going to keep them all & grow them up ?

Quote: Snow is 12" everywhere min. and up to 18" here and there. We have a long driveway, and DH got stuck 4 times on his way to the road. Poor guy.

I'm about to go sweep snow off the goose pools and break ice. Then thaw chicken waters and refill. I hope the geese don't lay today, but I suppose they will.

Sounds like a nasty storm in the Midwest. Hope everyone fares well in it. Luckily, we have been having early spring weather, which makes finishing outdoor projects much easier.

Stay warm! I love snow, but that's probably because I don't see too much of it here.

I went to town yesterday so no one here plans to go anywhere till Friday. ... our snow is about that bad... we have a small break in the weather but it's supose to start again in a couple hours and last all night. Nappy/Napoleon layed her egg right on time today and Josephine isn't due to lay till tomarrow so we'll see.
