Just like a giant drake penis, eh? Glad I'm not a duck or goose.I'm going to try to put my bully pair back into group yard so Spirit can go outside in his pen today. If I have to separate, I'll cross-fence the group yard instead. It's a pain in the butt, but glad it is only temporary. Once breeding season is over, all my geese (except, of course my special needs darlings) are going onto the horse pasture to run as one big group.
I can understand why people would be rehoming extra pairs/trios this time of year. But it can be a win-win situation because it makes life easier on the seller and it works out well for you!
It was a little disturbing. A gander's penis is long, twisty and rather talented to find its way into a goose's vent. I want to see a goose lay an egg. Hopefully once my dewlaps start laying, I may be able to witness that.
Congrats on finding more goose eggs and emu baby 1 doing well!!![]()
You can say that again.Emu baby pics![]()
and J, gander looks like drake only a tad larger. if folks could only see it they would know why we say drakes and chickens don't need to be kept together.
Meringue!Iain, I must have baking on the mind.... I read "My menagerie includes" as "My meringue (as in meringue cookies) includes"... Good to know after rereading, that you don't put animals such as horses, dogs, cats, geese and ducks into your meringues!![]()

Was just kicking around the idea of hatching some geese. What are you asking?Does anyone want any of my Sebbie eggs before I put them on Ebay ? (after checking fertility of course)
Hahaha. Wish I could get away with sneaking in birds here of any type. My hubs has a "new addition" radar. So I have been banned from hatching quail until the summerI could do it anyway but I need to save up all my "points" for when he finds out my trio is in fact geese not really large ducks lol![]()

Christine, I know what you mean. My hubby likes to hop on byc at night to read up on my posts and has busted me a couple of times talking about getting more birds/eggs, etc.![]()

Hopefully hubbies never learn about BYC. They'd hear all sorts of incriminating info!
RG, I can't get over how BIG that emu baby is. What are emu babies called anyway? Chicks? Or is there a special word for them?

I don't go by weight, so can't help you there. Congrats though, and happy hatching!Hello![]()
I'm going to start incubating ducks for the first time and just have some general questions.
I'll be setting the first batch, some bantam appleyards, after my batch of chickens has finished hatching. What is the incubation period for bantam appleyards? And what is the recommended starting humidity? I track my eggs by weight, what is the percentage weight the eggs need to lose?
Thanks![]()

Lol, I'm hoping hubby never finds out about BYC. He's worse than me, if he saw all these different chickens and ducks I'd have to sell half of my flock to make room for "his" flock. Since I am the one who does all the cleaning, feeding, hatching, etc, I prefer him to just stick with his 2 chickens (a leghorn and sumatra).Hopefully hubbies never learn about BYC. They'd hear all sorts of incriminating info!

At least most of you guys have hubbies that like the birds. Mine hates chickens and tolerates the ducks (barely) and the geese. He grudgingly admitted the other night that he likes the geese the best because they are the quietest (meaning they don't chatter all day long). I thought, "Good thing you like them because there are more on the way!"![]()
