Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Update on the cabinet. I finally got the backup thermostat steady at 101.9. The main thermostat was holding at 99.1 at last look. Do I dare try to fine-tune it to 99.5? Of course I do!

I've also got a line on yet another styrobator. Going to grab that up on Wednesday.

Had spring fever since last month. I'm apparently an incubator hoarder now. In reality, the cabinet is more for my boss than for me. She's concerned about the availability of shipped chicks in the future, so this is her fail-safe.

I usually do smaller batches when I'm hatching for myself. The cabinet is going to be for special orders and for the employer's chicks. She offered to help pay for it and I refused because I want it to be 100% mine in case I ever move on to another farm.

Right on. It's awesome you can hatch so many and not worry about placing the babies. I'm hoping my birds make enough money in eggs/babies to buy a hovabator and a few bags of feed. That will make me happy.

Ok, so we have 5 "wigglers" and 3 of those 5 have pipped. Out of those 3, 1 has zipped almost all the way, and is peeping like crazy! Just waiting for the remaining 7 to show signs of hatching. They weren't due to hatch till tomorrow.

Yesterday early afternoon, I went to do my routine check for eggs in my Africans' main nest. It's in a downed tree in the middle of the pasture. Here is a pic of my brown African girl, Peanut, at her nest (if you can see her):

Well, I didn't find any new eggs, but was surprised to find my cats laying up against the nest. Do you think they are guarding it?
