I have a question... my Muscovy duck lost her very first duck to some outdoor critters. How soon after she looses her first clutch will she lay another?? She is with a drake 24/7. I really want some babies and I don't want to wait very long. Please help:)

Have penciled round the airsac I can see, day 22 of incubation, too small, big or just right?
That looks a tiny bit big for day 22. I like to see them like that at lockdown.

Depends on the duck. Some will try again right away and others won't sit again until next season. Finger crossed your girl wants to try again.

I think they are looking good, they should really start to slope down one side though.. if they don't start doing that soon then get rid if some water.

Tried googling airsacs size but still unsure, thought I'd upload some pics to see if anyone thinks they look ok, some seem on track I think but some seem small,we are on day 22 now

This one worries me abit. Does the sack start at the end of the egg or just across the top? It shouldn't really be floating around the top side if the egg like it looks in the pic. But if it does start at the other end and it's already sloped down then yeah I agree with gq that it's abit big.

[/quotThat's the biggest airsac, the rest are smaller, it's lockdown on Sunday

The airsac on the pic with the egg on it's side by the edge of the incubator is exactly where it is, it's kinda just there at the top but the big one is sloping nicely, candled today and they had increased since yesterday

sounds good, you may have to help that one though. Good luck!

Help which one? The one with big airsac or the one with the airsac on the top? 6 out of 7 were assisted last year but that's because one died and the lady that was helping me thought it was best to intervene as my other pipers had all made zero progress in 24 hours, nothing had developed. I think lifting the lid off and on meant the others had to be helped too when they pipped so don't want to step in to early but also can't bear to watch one die :(

Hi all, sorry me again. Today is lockdown, (day 25) and I had another teacher pop into school to do it as I'm not able to but she said 3 have pipped already!! That's early and they've not had the higher humidity yet! Has anyone else had this before and what happened? I'm afraid that they'll die now as the shells won't be soft enough yet for them to zip round :( can't go in until tomorrow now so will have to see what the outcome is in the morning but just thought I'd see if anyone else has had any survive?

I've had them pip and hatch in the egg turner. Deep breath.

If the humidity gets increased now, they should be fine.
