this is a better picture. It shows a big vein and the yellow is the yolk sac? I'm assuming so.

here is a side view and it looks like his face. I believe its his eye ball. That's what it looks like anyway. I wrapped him in wet paper towels because it looks like he has a lot of the egg yolk to absorb. I don't think he's quite ready to come out. But how'd the hole get there? Hmm for now I'm just going to leave him be.

when they wiggle peck chirp...that's all so they can absorb that yolk and blood....pip the shell is just so they can breath....just keep it wrapped in the damp paper and it should be able to hatch it's self! looks good! can't wait to see pictures...what kind of duck??

Is it bleeding? get a soft old wash cloth and a small bowl lay the cloth inside the bowl and lay egg into it. This way if duckling starts moving around a lot it won't be able to go far and hopefully will not start bleeding. Don't take any more shell off let him finish hatching now, it can breathe on it's own. Is it moving around much? The bowl needs to be just big enough for egg to fit comfortably. if it's still in bator than scratch all I said I thought you had it out.

Yes Heidisgran I love my geese, they are such special birds . You sound so much like me, my dh said no more house's but my 2 geese were having to sleep in the house with 2 Muscovy's and even though the geese were in their own stall the ducks were scared to go in every night, so this year while my dh was recuperating from shoulder surgery Our son built a goose house for me, so my dh didn't have to build any more houses but I still got another one. Pretty cool don't you think

I'm anxiously waiting to hear the peeping. Thanks, at this point I'm happy I helped some and am just going to wait for it to do the rest. I'm 99% positive it will be a Pekin(mother) Runner(father) cross. Should be interesting to see how it turns out and what qualities it will have from each breed.

Nope no blood :D could I still do the bowl thing even though the egg is in the bator? I really like that idea, especially since its the only one close to hatching. The duckling is moving around but the egg isn't. I felt no movement when I was opening it up more, but I did see movement. And whether or not the duckling knows it we made eye contact <3 :love I agree and I'm just going to let it do its thing now and hopefully I will have a beautiful baby duckling soon.

THANKS TO ALL WHO HELPED ME GET THIS FAR!!

Sure would love an update before I get off? Trying not to worry.

you must have been typing at the same time as I was, yes use the bowl if you can fit it in with out getting the duckling too close to heating source. This will keep it from wiggling around too much and maybe causing bleeding. I think it knows it made eye contact. Now talk to it so it knows your voice. And when I was helping my lil duckling that one time, I was spritzing the egg as I held it in my hand and she opened her mouth and took a drink, it was so cool. Okay now I can get off and will check back in the morning try to get some rest if you can.

Good thing you found that link. Your situation seems so similar to theirs. Well, I hope everything works out for you. I am thinking the crack may have happen by something else and not the baby. Sometimes that happens.

I have read somewhere on the Internet about either taping the opening or using something similar to plaster it. Maybe try googling. Anything to keep that bugger alive. Best wishes
