Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

A good sign of a dead egg is a lack of clear veins. After death the veins start to break down. Of course there comes a time when you can't tell because the shell is too full of duckling, but in the earlier stages it's a good indicator. Or in the very early stages seeing a 'ring' shape rather than veins - that means it's died too (usually of a bacterial infection).

I have one egg that is real little, looks like a store small chicken egg, but it came with the duck eggs that I purchased, and when I candled it tonight, that little bugger in there was just moving all over the place Looked like he was just dancing away. I talk or sing to my eggs, I know I'm weird, but they seem to like it. I swear I have 2 eggs that I can see 2 heads in it too. Not sure if thats what I am seeing or not. But that little egg ducky was just having fun inside that cell it looked like.

oh really? was it day was it on ??

Put it this way.. Hold the egg up to your nose, take a whiff and you will KNOW if it's bad. Lol. There will be no question.

I've had bad eggs but they went purple coloured before I could smell anything.

You may remember that I have two ducks sitting on eggs on the same nest. When they both get off I rush in to candle and remove anything that's no go. The ducks have also thrown out (or eaten as far as I can tell

) several eggs. So, with all that, they are down to one developing egg
