I've decided to scope this thread out and see what in the world you all are talking about on page 292.

Not sure if I'll have time to read the whole thing.

Was going to hatch some from Quackers the Black Swedish who's been palling around with Earl the Saxony drake, but it's too cold in the house. The best spot is the basement, and for 5 days I fooled with the incubator. I'd get it to 98, or 100.9. I've hatched at 100.9 before, but it was always poor. Though that was with shipped eggs. I'm not doing it until I have 99.something.

Good thing I lost the bid on Mexican Spotted Quail eggs (cute little birds!) I threw out a last minute bid but got beat by $0.50. I need to just stay off Ebay anyways.

So how many hatches are still in progress? Can we keep this thread alive until January when I start hatching?

I haven't hatched anything since last March.

The colour of the bird tells you its genetic makeup - or will give you a strong clue anyway. So, if it's a chocolate female then you know it has one dose of brown. The exceptions are black - you can't tell by just looking at a black bird whether it has only one dose or two doses of black. One dose is enough to turn a bird black, but they are meant to have two. When I say doses I mean 'number of genes inherited from both parents'. One dose means the bird only inherited one grge if that colour from either mum or dad. One dose will have no effect in males so you can't tell just by looking. My female has all black but she hass some of heer feathets that have like a green sheen to them, specially when the sun hits it. I am thinking I do no want a Cayuga drake. Jonny just better start behaving himself and mate with my Cayuga. Or I might have to " borrow" somebody's drake. Do they have drake services out there? They have stud services for horses. Lol

Julie there is a pool at the cemetery that has all kinds of ducks, it's the duck drop off when people don't want their ducks anymore. But what if she gets loose from me.?? How would I get her back? I'm not going in that pond
