So sorry to hear about your duck and your dog, but again on a happy note so glad to hear she has accepted the 2 teenagers.

It was a very hard lesson learned for my daughter. But it will be alright. I'm just glad it wasn't a true predator. Like a coon.

Yep those lessons can be hard.

And how is Beaker doing? Sorry about your drake

Beaker's great. Just has a bald spot on his head. It looks kinda funny.

Thank you! I'm learning a ton, but the more I read through the archives, the more questions I come up with! I've been researching this for a year now, so you'd think I'd have most of it planned out!

Right now, I trying to determine the best locally sourced litter system for duck raising in my particular set up, and trying to figure out how big a water porch (similar to Holerread's) I need. http://holderreadfarm.com/photogallery/pen_building_page/pens_buildings.htm I'm thinking 3x4 should be big enough, as not all 10 ducks will be drinking at the same time. Please correct me if I'm mistaken in that.

I'd post you a pic of my intended coop, but I'm not quite sure yet how to upload pics on to here.

QJ- Sorry about your duck. Thanks for talking to the turkey/duck hottie guy. If I haven't found one by spring that's what I'll do. Poults are sooo sweet.

SM_ that sucks. I just had kidney surgery in march to fix an issue that was giving me constant kidney stones for years, so I know how bad that sucks. Hope it passes QUICK!
My lil lonely quail is doing great. He's pretty loud, I'm hoping one of the other eggs due will hatch to keep him company but it's not looking good.

I have a broody silkie again I think. If she sticks with it I'm going to see if I can move her inside without breaking her and give her 2 of the goose eggs when they come, and try incubating 2 myself. Not to anyone using silkies for broodies- 2 is enough. I seem to always have a broodie with just them. My silkie mix occasionally goes broodie too, and my del/bantam cochin just started laying so I'm waiting for her to go broodie too. Thankfully I have a white leghorn to give me eggs when they're slacking.

I know what you mean. You'll answer one question and come up with 5 more. This is a great forum for that though. 3x4 sounds plenty big to me. Can't wait to see pics! Click on the "uploads" tab and then you have to copy and paste the pic back into here. It's kinda confusing and really slow.

Well, I'm now birdless. So nothing will be going broody on me. I saw some super cheap goose eggs. I might get a couple too and see what happens. (Maybe a little surprise for daddy?) LOL.
