QJ and DG you both have a LG still air incubator right? How many eggs can you get in there? I am suppose to be getting about 22 WH eggs, 4 brown or white Chinese geese eggs, and I don't know how many or what kind of chicken eggs next week. And if they won't all fit hubby said I need to go buy a new one. What should I get????

I have a lg still air. I have 24 call eggs, 5 goose eggs, 12 quail eggs, and a quail chick in there right now with room to spare.

Going to toss in another dozen or so quail eggs once whatever's going to hatch out of this batch are done.

well that was a waste of time money and effort
so last night i had quite the headace and didnt want to leave my warm bed.. so i called my husband and told him to lock up the chickens when he got home... no problem right.... WRONG!!!
so i come out to warm up the truck brownie my buff orphington and liberty my new EE roo where still out side. the coop door was shut but the duck door wasnt.....
so i freek out and notice no black or blue orphingtons around Jett always followed me around walk around there is blue wings down shivering with frost on top of her.. UGH!!!!!
no sign of jett or ebony..
so out of 5 orphingtons i have one with hypothermia one with a broken wing one to ashes and two missing
I GIVE UP!!!!!
im not getting anymore chickens until next spring..
im so angry and sad!!
i was really getting attatched i never try to get attached!!

I am so sorry Evelle. Maybe they just found a warm cozy place and aren't coming out until later.

I know how you feel about getting attatched. My one little bitty chicken and my defective RIR are my favorites and I so want to bring them in so they'll be safe, but they're happier outside with their friends so I have to take my chances. I'm trying my best not to get too attatched to anyone else, but it's hard.

I just realized today is friday the 13th. Must be why my stupid truck broke and Evelle's having chicken problems.
I shall name my new quail Freddy. If a buddy for him manages to hatch it will be krueger, lol.

Hi Everyone! Stopping in for a (very) quick hello! Haven't gotten a chance to peek in on my eggs yet this morning. Busy with schooling the kids, feeding them, doing quarterly taxes, getting finances in order. Man, all of these responsible things keep getting in the way of my play time! Now, I gotta head to the grocery store while the little guy naps. Can't slow down...gotta keep going...need more coffee!
I'll catch up with you all later and see what has been going on!!

Day 7 is today. Should I be nervous?? Yes... But what should YOU say??... NOOOOooooo. Perfectly normal.

Ok, I have like 15 pages to go back and read and catch up on. Sister and brother in law showed up last night, without calling of course. And brother in law sits on my computer the whole time he's here of course, so I gave up and went to bed as soon as they got here. Then my truck broke down this morning on the way to take hubby to work.

Ok, that's all the bad stuff, now for the good.
My eggs are all in perfect shape, not a crack in there. Yay! So there are 24 calls in the bator, and one less quail egg. I can't believe how much smaller the call are than regular duck eggs. The little guy popped out without me noticing as I was putting in the duck eggs this morning! Ok, now give me an hour to catch up on everything I missed.

Friday's don't bother me as bad. But hello, Thursday night? Kids got school, people got work. Not to mention the 2 little ones end up being monsters because it throws them off their routine but who cares, they aren't the ones that have to deal with it. At least have some respect for my first grader. It's not fair to her to have her cousins over and her have to go to bed and not play, and I'm not letting her stay up to play when she has school. School is more important. It would be nice if her aunt and uncle thought about that. They are supposed to be back tonight, at lest they gave some warning this time. Of course they didn't ask if we minded if they came over tonight, just stated they were. That's ok, once she starts work or classes she has to be up in the morning for...well, paybacks a %#@$*.

I can usually see veining by day 3 on white eggs, day 5 on brown. Give them a few more days, but I would think you should be able to see something by tonight. How good is your candler? Where the eggs in good shape when you got them?
