So how long do I need to let my eggs sit before I can put them in the incubator and start cooiking?

Thought you weren't setting them until Saturday?

It's hard to wait, aint't it? I let mine set a few hours is it, usually around 4-6. Then I put them in the incubator and let them rest in there without turning for 24 hours. You know how it is though, you're going to get a different answer from everyone.
How many and what eggs did you get? I know you were getting WH, but weren't you getting mystery eggs too?

SM, sorry about the laminitis issues. That can really suck! Glad he has his goat buddies to keep him company when cooped up. (pardon the pun) I have 3 boys and hubby has a mare. We have had them for 10 years now and they are our kids. We boarded in the 1st year and I hated not having them on property.... so we moved out of the city.

Julie, I love my geese, but they are not "pets". They came with the property we moved onto this past August. They seem to like me, make the cutest soft talking noises to me, and take lots of naps around me. On the other hand, they call loudly and sometimes even hiss at hubby (which is usually while he is feeding them!). For the most part, they are very quiet, have a specific routine, and only hang out in two spots on the property (feeding area and a calm spot on our stream). They do call loudly if something bothers them, which I personally appreciate. I think of them as the alarm system for my horses (albeit not the most reliable one). Personally, the territorial and watchdog qualities are what I like about the breed.

Speaking of geese, I noticed that Ideal Poultry could send me Pom or Embden goslings to coincide with one of my upcoming duckling hatch dates. I also discovered my first local ad for geese in weeks.... toulouse adults for $10. What do the think is the best decision for my current pair?

I too like cheese. Actually, the more appropriate term is love. I love cheese. In fact, I just ate a piece of cheese. Just now. It was yellow.

SM, as for how long to wait.... I will share my recent experience. I got the ancona eggs on Thursday, but the cayuga eggs got hung up at local post office for a day, so did not arrive until Friday. I waited 3 hours, barely long enough to allow cayuga eggs to warm up and settle with pointy end down before setting eggs. Only 1 ancona egg vs 11 cayuga eggs are growing. Go figure.

I am waiting for my new incubator to get here. Fedex says it will be here tomorrow. I have a hair appointment tomorrow at noon. He better get here before that so I can get it set up.

I have:
17 WH eggs
2 Brown Chinese Geese eggs
2 White Chinese Geese eggs
and 5 salmon favorelle/appenzeller spitzenhauben and auracauna/apenzeller spitzenhauben chicken mixes

I want watchdog geese, but not yappy housedog geese, kwim? I want the geese to honk if someone comes in the yard, but not when there's a squirrel, or a leaf, or an airplane, etc...
I'd go with the toulouse unless you want goslings, then embden. They'd be the closest match in temperament/size with your current geese, probably.

I will have two incubators, LG still air and a Hova-bator forced air. Should I use them both? and what should I put in what if I do?
