yay i just realize my status changed to out of the brooder

what does all that mean anyway?

we hve gotten one snow this year... about 6 inches, and then a couple inches here and there but mostly ice, lots and lots of ice! i can see my backyard and i don't think i have been able to say that in FEB since i moved here almost 17 yrs ago! i need everyone to think happy thoughts for me so we don't get 8 ft of snow like we did valentines day 5 years ago when i went in to give birth to my son, and then i had to have an emergency c-section! They had to go get the doc with a plow truck

Bakin, it is better to set goose eggs 2 days before duck eggs if doing together, as it takes 28 days for ducks, but 29-31 days for goose. So, the goose eggs pip a 1-3 days later, which is what triggers raising humidity. Plus, I am running my bator at 5% less humidity and 1-2 degrees difference for goosies (which is actually the same temp, just that goose eggs are taller).

In my case, I set them both same day. So, I will most likely have duckies be hatching bator and move goosies over while duckies are pipping/hatching.

would it work to move the ducks into second bator for lock down and leaving the goosies in the other or vise versa?

I don't think it matters which is which... just that one bator will be 101 temp/50-55% for cooking and the other bator will be 99 temp and 70-75% for hatching. And I will move eggs into hatching bator as they pip.

Temp stays the same for chicken, duck, goose eggs. (99-100.5 is our preferred range) anything higher can result in early hatching. The humidity is the big difference at lock down. Chickens we run 60-70% while waterfowl gets 70-80%.

Then again our son is running a 3 year themperature experiment and runs chicken eggs at three different temps. This was year one for the testing. He is currently writing his summary and prepping details to do a blog for others to follow and reference.

Just spent the morning making my own goose egg rack for the cabinet bator. Was tired of padding the eggs, didn't want to spend 70$ for the three row retail version. So I made a 4 row rack to hold 7 eggs per row on their sides. Gotta love the dirty African eggs on the right.

Celtic that looks great. I'm interested in reading your son's blog. That's awesome!
Sm: I gotta figure out what to hatch too.
Bakin; It goes by how many posts you have made.
Utah: thanks. I'll do the research on that one. My vet is pretty much prescribing over the phone because I can't get my dog up into the car to take her in. :( She did good today though. Was able to get up the steps and outside.

Just got inside. We have a good 3 inches out there. Little Edward is wet for some reason. I guess he didn't sleep in his ducky house. I'm going to put him in the bathtub when the human children are done with baths.

My mallards hate the snow. They decided to fly over the house and into the neighbors yard. I had to jump 2 fences to catch them. Funny now, not funny then.

I finally got my humidity to hold at 60. The trick was another pan of water and 4 sponges. Still can't see anything in Batch #2 sebbies.

My ducks are out in the snow. They are use to by now. We have over 2 inches of snow and now the snow flakes are HUGE!!!! so we are still getting more snow. I hate it cause hubby is not home to shovel or use the snow blower. Guess I will have to go out soon and blow some snow
