Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Duckgirl- what can you tell me about Anconas?? They are quite dapper in their black and white best, don't you think?? Do they lay better than your other ducks?

Our Pekings lay nearly as many as our Khakis. I'm guessing its the light thats doing it, since they aren't SUPPOSED to lay that much, but seems to me that happy ducks give lots of eggs.

I don't shovel snow. Thats DHs job, mostly. I usually just wait for dogs, cats, kids, and man boots to knowck it down a bit!!! Now, If I could just keep the city from packing the entrance to my driveway when they plow, THAT would be a miracle!!

I've thought about pheasant, but I don't have any experience with them at all. I'm totally comfy (after like 35 years now) with hatching most barn fowl. I'm even o.k. with peacock, but I've never hatched a goose egg or a pheasant. They both seem a little intimidating, with all those special needs!!

oh no what have i gotten my self into ... what special needs do goose eggs have .... uh oh

Getting a PLOW is a miracle in this town!

Well, insofar as I know, then only special need is that the eggs need to be aired for a 5-10 minutes daily. You literally set them out, or take the lid off the bator, and let them hang for a few, then back intot he toaster. I think my mom also sprayed them with water daily for the last 2 days before lockdown, and then gave them lots of humidity.

Honestly, though, I'd ask the goose people. I don't hatch geese, I'm and duck, turkey, quail head.
