Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Quaker jack, sounds like another good deal.

Maybe we should all have a two egg exchange. You know, like 5 of us agree to send two eggs each to one or another of us, so we all get two, then we hatch them out and stay connected to our BYC family.....

Oh cool! QJ. You will love appleyards, they are so pretty! Are you getting saxonys? What about WH? You should get some WH

Hi Marty! what are you hatching again? I forgot lol.

The saxonys are in the bator. All are developing 11 for 11. Except I had to throw one out yesterday. That one I thought would be a blood line because of where it started growing RIGHT by the air cell.

That was about 40 pages ago. You missed it. LOL.

We should. I need something that lays first. Unless you peeps want some mallards. Any day now I'll find an egg in there.

DG, no you are buying off spring not his direct breeding stock he grew out. They band the older birds. Buying from the show quality stock doesn't promise SQ babies, just a great potential for them. You will have your receipt showing you bought ducklings from them, and the year bought. How they grow out and what you do with the breeding once grown makes them YOUR line of stock, not HWF stock.

I was referring to buying adult breeding birds, which is what we often do now.

Hey guys! Happy afternoon!

Celtic, from what I read on your post, goslings also have to be kept in temperate climate until 5-6 weeks? How can I let my geese raise them if it is below freezing outside?? They live outside 24/7 and I do not think I could successfully contain them inside. Could I put the goslings in the coop or an outside covered pen with a heat lamp, and that way the geese could be right outside the mesh?

QJ, be on the ready to help your ducky who pipped on the pointy end hatch!!

DG I would hope for 1 out of 6 to be SQ, the rest should easily be breedable coming from HWF. In chickens they say you are lucky if 1 in 10 is worth keeping for breeding. If ordering 6 you should expect a 40/60 or 50/50 split males to females in most cases. I know they do everything straight run and won't sex and mark the ducklings. Either way you will have babies to grow out and make a selection from to keep and to cull.
