I'll catch up later, but just wanted to update on my Marans eggs. I'm going to put them in the bator at 8:00pm. I tossed the one that was leaking fluids from the crack, no matter how much wax I used to try to seal it, it just kept leaking somewhere else so I gave up on it and tossed it. The other egg that had a little crack, but wasn't leaking looks good. I only used a little wax on it and I hope that it will candle out well and

hatch. So in 21 days I hope to have little wheaten marans chicks...... I've only got a week left on my other eggs splash cochins, olive eggers, Australorp X marans.

It is odd that the recommended temp was 99.5. I don't use a still-air, like I said, but I do think that is too low.

If you only had two eggs starting to develop then that might indicate a problem with the eggs before you even put them in the bator.... Even just poor handling in the post (if that's how you got them). Eggs can arrive unbroken but they can still get pretty shaken up inside.

the wax shouldnt affect the egg
as other mentioned
i have an egg that i sealed with bees wax.
had a hairline crack in it.
just make sure the crack is sealed good.
the egg WAS doing great.
now neither is doing good. unrelated to the wax

we drove and got them.
so not the shipping egg issue here.
but it could be because the ducks she had had just started laying for the year.
i guess a million and one things could have been wrong that i couldnt control.
im not going to worry over it.


im anxious for the calls the start.
2 girls are full swing into laying. 1 is just getting into the swing
and 1 is holding out on me

Her ducks could have been young and therefore with thick shells. Shells are thicker early in the season too. Could have been an issue with them pipping internally but not making an impact on the shell.

Sounds like a good plan. Put it behind you and look ahead to the Calls.

Evening all, sorry I can't be around in the evenings as much, but too much going on around here. Always need to wait until evening chores are done, then dinner, then the baby gets his bath and bed. Teenager is working on homework, I just candled and turned eggs and took some video of a few.

When you float test eggs:

fresh just collected that eggs they sink and lay still

Developing eggs with a live duck, chick, goose will sink and then wiggle/wobble

Bad eggs float and should be tossed.

ALWAYS use warm water so you aren't rapidly cooling and shocking the eggs.
