if you closed a flock, and only brought in eggs, could you still introduce black head to your flock? I might not be able to get eggs from you marty (peacock) if this is true....

You can get $3-4 a chick here but it probably varies by location.

It's been kind of quiet in here the past few days!

Here's the latest news from my flock:

3 eggs in the duck run this morning! These are the first we've gotten since December 28th.

First pipped duckie hadn't done anything over night so I chipped away a tiny piece of the shell and I can see his/her little beak in there moving about. No obvious progress, but I know quack is alive.

3 more pips overnight. No other obvious progress.

They're due Saturday, so this very well could be right on schedule.

After dark, my two remaining chicks go to live with their hatchmates.

Also: went to the feedstore feeling secure that they don't get their chicks and duckies until tomorrow. Guess they got a bigger surprise than I did when the postal truck showed up today! Looks like they currently have pekins and khakis in the duck bin. I was awwww-ing over then and almost brought some home. Lucky the lady at the counter reminded me that I've got my own ducks hatching!

Technically started with 12. ALL were fertile. 4 quitters along the way.

8 eggs in LD. 7 have hatched. One more just piped this afternoon.

I had 2 goose eggs that had blood rings in them so I took them out and tossed them. Very upset about that. I have Crelo chickens that llok like they could pip any day but they are not due until next Tuesday,
