Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Hoping Bobby is out of his shell when DG wakes up. You get too freaked out DG calm down he will do what he has to do.
QJ did you say that you already shipped my goodies out? If so, I haven't seen it yet.
I just order 5 Toulouse goose eggs. What am I going to so with them now.
I also bought some Anacona eggs. Geez I have to stop this.
Hello, my name is Cindy and I am addicted to buying, incubating, candling and hatching eggs. I have a probllem and can not control myself. I think I need special help.

Where's that support group when you need it? I need it too. I'm struggling with the selling of my new ducklings now. I had already picked my favorite, but the buyer wants blacks and blues and those are the ones I most wanted to keep!

It's a sign of your nurturing nature that you're addicted to hatching and raising these babies. It's a good thing.

Morning Everyone,
SM maybe the thread should be renamed Hatchers Anonomus

I know to stay outta the bator

Hi little Squishy!

Sue, if you go back to my first goose hatching thread, you can read about my freaking out when the hole just kept getting bigger, but no turning.... which felt like forever. Pete and I chatted up all night until after it hatched. I even posted pics identical to yours. It may help to see how it went.

I'd forgotten about that

I do not blame USPS.

Celtic is in Florida... in my first set, I had 3 of 5 africans hatch. In 2nd set (which did get lost for a day) I have 3 of 5 africans developing well now on day 10.

Aurora is in Georgia and I have had excellent fertility/development from both sets of ancona eggs.

Sebrightmom (LOVE her!!), is who I got my 1st set of cayuga eggs. She is in Illinois (or Iowa?... somewhere in that area), same as our matching sets of toulouse eggs.

I think it comes down to 1) how strong fertility is with breeding stock, 2) how eggs are collected/stored, 3) how eggs are packaged, and 4) how carefully shippers handled the eggs. If any of these factors are off, it will affect development and hatch rate.

I don't like buying shipped eggs, even though I have some coming very soon! Too many variables on a process that's already very touchy.

But you can be successful with shipped eggs. I've seen lots of people on here who are. I'm just reluctant to take risks if I can find stock locally as easy.

8 of 11 from eggs that took a short car trip is pretty good for a first-timer like me. Who was it here who got a 100% hatch from shipped eggs?

I can't wait to hatch some from my own flock, but I'm holding off for a while since they just resumed laying after winter break.

I get 1st pick & thats it!
