Ok off the soap box.
Oh you're kidding me. Could it be an accident? Surely someone wouldn't lie about it when obviously it will lay an egg one day.

You did give me a funny mental though... :)

Actually wait.. wasn't the goose in Jack and the Beanstalk a male that laid eggs?? Do those eggs have a golden hue to them??

morning QJ hows things at your house this morning?

Kinda quiet so far... but I'm not gonna lie.. this time change thing is really screwing with us.

The baby slept til 10:30, in fact, we all did. This is NOT like us. We are usually up by 730. I HATE it! I feel like I've wasted 4 hours of the day already!

I understand that... I got use to me getting up and getting chores done before hubby got up.. now he's getting up with me. sighs

I dont think the people we got them from knew... I think it was who they got them from that started the whole mess.

I wish I had golden eggs.... I'd even share

I'm in the middle of re-reading Storey's Guide to Raising Ducks (I bought the new edition because I lost my old copy). There was a story in there that described a little experiment Dave Holderread did to determine whether or not ducklings hear and imprint on your voice while they are in the shell. It turned out that they did, in fact, recognize his voice over other humans and picked him out of a group of 3 people just from his voice. Pretty cool. I'm going to start talking to my eggs (because my hubby doesn't think I'm quite crazy enough yet).

I just got a copy last week. I read through a little bit, I need to read the whole thing still.

Yeah, bobby is cute.
But, I have bad news.... Bobby passed away last night...

.... I guess he wasn't strong enough to make it... I miss him

Sorry DG.

Well....Twitchy's still twitching. LOL! He seems to have some more strength. I used one of those hypodermic syringes (without a needle) to give the little one some water and he's moved him self around the incubator but still doesn't have the strength to stand up just yet. He's not attached to his shell anymore but his "belly button" is still bulged out a little. It doesn't look as bad this morning though. I've got my eye on you Twitchy.

Go twitchy! My avatar ducklings had big belly buttons for a few days. They are 8 weeks old and not very bright, but they are healthy, lol.

How rude. At least you found out before you hatched/sold goslings and had people mad at you for them not being pilgrims.

Time change. It's stupid, going to take the next week at least to get all the kids back on schedule. Spring break doesn't help any either.

My eggs are due to go on lockdown tomorrow, but have went early because one of the eggs peeped at me when I just went and turned them. So I'm guessing I have at least one internal pip. I'm going to try to be a good girl and keep my hands out of the incubator, but I got to turn the other eggs in there sometime.

Hey guys!

So, I am on day 19 with my solo coturnix quail. Still no pipping but candled and it looks like it is just slightly behind in development. I wonder if it was an older egg? My incubator temp hasn't fluctuated at all from day one. It is just weird. I also cancelled my Pidgey order because I found someone local that is selling Cayuga eggs for $4 a dozen. Yeah, I know. Crazy sweet deal! I just hope they are good quality. Hopefully I will get pics of her birds today.

He was doing good. But he stopped bre at hing for like 30 seconds straight. Then gasped. And kept doing that. I cried. I said my goodbye to him last night, knowing he wouldnt make it.

No I gettcha girl. I go by the same rule in most cases. The only time I pipped for a couple was because I had so few eggs of that breed. I think the chocolate orps was one of them, and there was another.. I can't remember. But that's normally how I roll too. "If you can't pip, I can't help you zip". :)
(hatching rule #7.)

thats different tho you paid for those eggs lol.

Well..... a long night.

Mrs. Srbenda spent most of the night up, helping the wrong end pippers. Right now, it looks like we have 5 of them that are doing well, running around in the brooder. We did lose 1 this afternoon, who never did walk, and two more are still pretty slow.

This morning, after seeing no progress in the "right" eggs I began opening them up, and it appears that either my overall lack of humidity in the LG, or the opening of the bator dried them out. It appears that none of them actually pipped internally, as they were not able to get through the membrane. We tried to save a few that were still moving, but nothing definite on them.

So, best case scenario is that we end up with 7 of 25 eggs. All 25 started well and were fertile. At least 4 were quitters along the way...of course, I am very disappointed in either my humidity control, or that of the LG bator, because I think without those issues, we would have had a much better hatch.

However, I am glad that at least some of progeny of the parents that died by fox have made it into another generation.
