Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

had the help duckling #3 he was starting to turn downwords and was backing himself up under his wing and body.
so i pulled off as much shell as i could before seeing blood and brought his head out.

he is dark as can be.
looks like he is going to be a black bibbed

Hi Peeps!!

Sleep tight! :)

My hubby is away in Melbourne at the moment so I am fending for myself. Had take-away (i.e. take-out) curry for dinner. Was good except my dog and chickens all gave me googly eyes the whole time, begging for my curry. The dog got some curry, the chickens got some rice. I was eating outside, watching the ducks. They on;y beg for peas. Good thing it wasn't a pea curry.

both babies are doing good.
baby #1 is up on her feet waddling around. she isnt upright but her feet are under her.
baby # 2 is scootchin around. and pretty active.
neither are quite dry yet but i took pics none the less.

and the rest of the eggs. i have 1 that looks to be internally pipping. will assist some when i get home. rest of the eggs are DEAD. so i may get 3 babies outs this deal.

pardon my photography behind the bator. that part of the wall is covered init.

neither baby wanted to hold still. so sorry they arent the best.

this should tell you how small they are. i do not have big hands, my hands are small. and look how tiny he is in comparison.

Oh and celtic. will they be grey?
or blue fawn? or what.
they kinda look lighter, their dark doesnt look quite black. but maybe its cuz they arent fluffy yet)

cute babies! and congrads on 3rd

CG, what goes around, comes around. I would have been lost without this forum and I don't think Caboose, Twist or Tink would have made it either. So we (ducks and myself) all thank this place and the wonderful people who help us out!

Update on morning candling/turning. A few of my anconas have shadowing in back of air cells. My pidgey cayuga eggs are still alive but appear to be a couple of days behind. I think I may try to squeeze them into goose bator to give them another 1-2 days of drier humidity conditions before putting them into hatcher.

And for my new goose eggs: My 2nd Erin toulouse egg is still really trying to develop.... but I tossed the completely scrambled egg this morning. I kept the 3rd egg in bator, but I expect I will toss it in a few days too. AND... drum roll.... it's only been 72 hours for my dewlaps, but I THINK (just maybe) I see fertility in all 4 of them.

Beautiful babies CG! I'm so excited for you.
I've got 3 in the brooder now. The last little guy had zipped but not pushed out and was glued into his shell. I got him out, but he bled a little around his belly button so I put him back in the incubator. Think he'll be fine, but want to give him a few hours to rest and figure out his feet since he was stuck. 1 blue pied, 3 black pied this time.
I need to go check everyone outside, but it's cold and wet and I don't feel like going out there yet. I went to fill food and water before I went to bed and my big ducks were sitting by the babies talking to them instead of sleeping in the coop, so I think they are finally making friends.
awe glad they'er making friends!

Good Morning Everyone!

CG - The babies are adorable, and you did a wonderful job! I'm so happy for you.

Iain - My Giant Pekings go on lockdown tomarrow ! The cells are angled, except the two that are kinda wonky did turn, but they are big and oddly shaped.

I've been candling them every night when I spray them. Got the Hova simmering on Sauna mode, ready for my water babies.

Also, very happy to see you probobly have spiders going inside those rolls royce eggs of yours! I'll be needing to call her myself. Hope she'll have some after Easter still.

Oh, sadly, there is only one Giant Toulouse still showing a spider, and one small blood ring starting, and two duds.

"No eggs for you!" Sorry Marty, you reminded me of the soup nazi on Seinfeld.

Yay for your hatch Evelle! How are you feeling lately?

I can't let me Fiona and the babies out cuz it's too wet and chilly. IMO. And she is Pi$$ed at me. Whew! Who knew Geese were like teenage girls.
Geese are just like teenagers! but not quite as mouthy, lol

First load of muddy clothes in the washer. Went outside for 2 minutes because I thought my duck was drowning. She was alone in the pool and I didn't see her for like five minutes. I put on my shoes and walked back there and she was sitting on the step preening. Little brat was just swimming around under water. I walked back up front, and my 2 year old had opened the door and her and little sister were out playing in the cold mud having fun. They both cried when I made them come inside.

You got that right. It's like they're people! I noticed this morning Fiona is starting the Ugly phase. Feather sprouts are coming in on her tail and a couple on her wings.
So ugly their cute? like bulldogs

The geese are 5 weeks today, the ducklings turned 5 weeks fri and sat. My older ducklings are about 10 weeks.

Notice the black blob on the left of this pic. She has ditched her call and gosling buddies. She is a big duck now. Won't stop following them, lol.

I thought that was a crow..

Guess what?? I went to turn my eggs that are in with my day 24 eggs, and I heard one peep! I quickly candled and saw that 4 are either already internally pipped or about to pip! So I quickly moved the last of my day 20 eggs into goose bator (and my 2 pidgey eggs propped upright) and am now starting to slowly boost humidity. That little egg peeped loudly at me the whole time I was rearranging everyone for hatching.... and it's BLUE!
