Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Oh, I love pineapple unside down cake. I ought to go bake something too. But finally, after two days, its not raining.

Baked this morning, because what else is there to do when it's pouring at 0630?

Ok I was in the bedroom and I heard peeping coming from the bathroom incubator, that is were the breda's and the BEI's are. One of the Breda's is pecking at the shell so hard that there is blood on the inside where his beak is hitting the shell. What should I do?? I do not want to lose these babies. Also another one has what looks like 2 beaks pushing on the shell!!!! What do I do???? HELP???!!!!

Give them some time. Hopefully the little one won't hurt itself, but they pip where they pip, and it usually works better if they get to do it. I doubt there are two babies in the one shell, so probobly its a foot or something helping with leverage. Odd. When are they due?

Some difficult hatches worked out. Iain and I go on ducky lock down today/tomarrow. Jaz and Celtic are still hatch queens, popping out babies left and right. Some unusual black spotted geese were on ebay last night.

How are your eggs from Erin doing? I had two go embryo, but one died allready. I've got one left. With only one, I'll eat it or sell it, but it seems like a shame. I'm gonna order some dewlap eggs from Iains folks, as soon as I see how their fertility is. For that much dough, I want to be sure of their fertility.

Whats new for you? Whats going on w/your bators?
I have 2 of Erin's with hearts, the other 2 diied, had big blood rings around the air cell. I have 12 Anconas all with nice hearts and I can't tell on the EE's because they are so dark I can't see in them, I also have some more Pekins and Runners to hatch next week. My Sebbie is still dancing happily away too!!! I love watching that goose dance.

Next Wednesday. Everything is hatching at weird times.

Marty, I don't keep babies in the house past 48 hours old, lol. However we have the brooder house so they are well protected.

Iain, I did see that picture this morning, very cute they are camped out now. I would say if hubby will build another outdoor playpen for the goslings put them out during the day, but put a low watt heat lamp in the structure so they can easily warm back up if chilled.

Still, it is normal for a spot of blood when a chick is pipping as they can sometimes hit a vessel. Just keep an eye on them. Sounds like they are very strong and will be zipping soon.

Your baby chicks that are pipping are due NEXT Wednesday? I've never know that to happen at all. ARe you sure they aren't due today??? A day or two early just says the temp is high. A week early says you maybe wrote down the wrong date.

No I have the dates right and the temp has been at 101, still air LG, humidity has been around 55% just raised it though to 65%. Iain and I are suppose to hatch almost together.

Wow, you'd better ask Celctic about this. I' have never in all these years had anything hatch a week early. Are these shipped or local eggs? If local, maybe you lucked out and got some started, but didn't die in the trip over& into your bator. Otherwise, I can't conveive of an explanation for this.

All my Pekins hatched a week early. I have two calendars that I keep everything on. I write down on both of them who was set when, when hatch date is. And the geese get weighed every Friday and written down on both calendars. I keep track of everything twice. My hubb y hates it. I actually have them down in 3 places..... I have the 2 calendars and them I also forgot that I put them down in my little book that is in my purse so if I am out and about I can make sure nothing is suppose to be hatching and we would need to rush home for it.
