Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Oh, sorry. I keep forgetting your not in a state very close.

Its been 60-80 here for days. How feathered out are they? My baby ducks go out as soon as they have 100% feathering, sooner if its warm. Never before 3 weeks though.

You do ducky lockdown tomarrow? I was too tired to candle this morning for pips, but I'm gonna move the eggs tonight (I always set eggs at 6 pm-gives me 4 hours before bed to obsess over my temp coming back to normal....I'd do it anyway, may as well plan)

No problem. It should climb quickly today to the 50s and I will try to take them outside then. They are not feathered out at all, but they do not need heat lamp anymore. However, I have not allowed brooder room to drop below 60s. This will be their first exposure to 50s.

Today is ducky lockdown!!!! I just placed the wet paper towels in there to get humidity over 70%, gave the air cells a quick candle on eggs that had not pipped yesterday.... and I'm officially hands off (except to hopefully quickly move cayuga eggs over).

SM keep an eye/ear on them but wait till they start externally pipping before doing anything. Chickens hatch so darn fast compared to ducks.

Marty that's kinda chilly unless the goose will be covering them for protection.

Saw those spotted geese, not a fan of them. They are deffinetly a cross of some sort

Some difficult hatches worked out. Iain and I go on ducky lock down today/tomarrow. Jaz and Celtic are still hatch queens, popping out babies left and right. Some unusual black spotted geese were on ebay last night.

How are your eggs from Erin doing? I had two go embryo, but one died allready. I've got one left. With only one, I'll eat it or sell it, but it seems like a shame. I'm gonna order some dewlap eggs from Iains folks, as soon as I see how their fertility is. For that much dough, I want to be sure of their fertility.

Whats new for you? Whats going on w/your bators?

so
1 baby that is dry is dark. they other is lighter.
so the darker one will most likely be gray right?
and the other what blue fawn?
i know its hard to tell till they get big. but i like guessing.
the one in bator looks blue ish.

Celtic - I don't leave them outside, I just start letting them out for the day then, and only when its warm enough. But, once they are 100% feathered, they go to the teenager pens, where there are heat lamps in the buildings for them.

I have to brood in my spare bedroom. The garage is full of VWs, and the barn allows in cats and skunks, and such. I just can't take them inside (even w/exhaust) for too long.

Thats why I usually don't even start incubating my own duck eggs until May. I wanted more stuff this year, though, so here I am.

Pineapple upside down cake? YUMMY!!!!!!!

Hey Celtic, did you see the pic of my geese meeting my ducks yesterday?? They tried to follow us into the house when we took them back inside and have been camping in my driveway calling to them from dawn to dusk for the past few days.
