Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

I just updated my signature line with our extended family... we have had several other breeds but the predators are pretty bad around here.

So it's better to put them into the hatching incubator a few days early rather than leave them in the egg turner?

Also I'm not sure what is the air cell you are referencing. I know the one at the top of the egg but is there a second one?

sbost, they don't need to be turned by day 22-23. It is better for them to be laying on their sides with the air cell placed dip side up. There is only the one air cell (the same one you are referring to). It is on the fat end of the egg. If you place a small, but powerful, flashlight against top of fat end of egg (in a dark room), you should be able to clearly see the outline of the air cell.

Oh sorry. I disable signatures so my BYC runs faster. I forget it's there.

I am working on my personal/business taxes AND creating a budget to purchase life insurance.. so if everyone could just say a little prayer for me.. that would be Faaaaabulous.

Thanks for your help. These are duck eggs... I thought they stopped turning / moved to hatching incubator on day 25?

I have seen the air sac in the top with candling. Does the space at the bottom of the egg go away as the egg matures? And does it it disappear all the way? If so, about what day?

I am so sorry to hear about your little duckling

Sending positive thoughts your way.

the duckling is worse today.
its like hes fading, or doesnt want to live anymore.
he wont use his bad leg now. barely tries to move.
and the other 2 brats were picking on him bcuz his bad leg just twitches. like it has nerve damage or sumthin.
i put him in a yougart cup to keep him safe from them, and under the heat lamp.

is it bad to wish he had passed on in the night ?

How old are your roman tufted? Do you like them? Are they friendly? I have a 5 week old pair.

Love, love the roman tuffted. She is sweet... her mate was killed by a predator. He was disabled though... his legs splayed when he was a baby. We have named the female Mama Goose and she protects this batch / flock she came with. She is pretty quiet except around her nest / eggs which were not fertile. I didn't get her another mate yet since I'm worried about too much noise from them. I had the kids handle the geese a lot when they were young so they would be people friendly.

duckling is doing even worse.
the other 2 little brats layed on him.
so he is soaked.
has labored breathing and can barely even lift his head.
i put him in a yougart cup so he is under the heat light.

also had to put them in the actual brooder.
i had them in a small box, inside the brooder. so they could get to everythign easier.
but the two rugrats kept jumping out.
literly. not standing on anything just jumping.
i had them in the box from ideal (so julie you know what size it is lol)
3 days old and they could jump out of it,..
its really gona be hard to let those 2 go =/ they are commical
