Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Cuteness! Geese stay friendly longer. At least Fiona is still tame. She'll let me pick her up and pet her and stuff. The ducks run like I want to eat them.

even Squishy doesn't really want us to pick him up, but he and the ducks want to tell us all about it.... and have this need to know where I am and what am i doing, lol

Sending or receiving eggs or live birds into or out of the USA requires you to go through the USDA and become a licensed importer/exporter. It isn't cheap, and it doesn't happen over night. This is also why the English Orps cost so much because of the fees, and shipping. There are also quarentine issues as well.

Good morning, everyone. Today is day 26 for my anconas and I woke up to my first external pip! It was not the egg that internally pipped on day 24.... so I went ahead and gave that egg a quick candle. It was alive, but the beak was not up at external pip site. So, just in case, I went ahead and externally pipped that egg. I'm trying to not stress about the rest of the eggs externally pipping, but I'm having horrible flashbacks from last week when I watched them one by one die as they tried to break through shells (or worse, get stuck zipping).

Last night, I went ahead and internally pipped an egg that was backwards. Somehow, with candling, I managed to find the spot for the beak, but I had to go through a vein to get there, which caused bleeding, so I did not attempt to free nares. However, after 8 hours that baby is still breathing well. I am not getting my hopes up too high that it will make it, but if it is still alive when the rest hatch out, I'll try to save it. I have one more egg that is not turned properly still in goose bator, but I may just leave that egg to fate.

In other news, my oldest ducks and goslings slept in garage last night. They seemed to do quite well in there last night. The geese are doing guard patrol and all seem happy with the new set up.

That's awesome. Maybe this time tmw you will be posting picks! (or maybe tonight?... wishful thinking.)

OK Guys.... the egg that I was planning to leave to fate in goose bator is trying to pip on pointy end, side up. I can see the blue staining starting on egg, but when I candle, it is alive but won't be for much longer. I cannot find the area to pip upon candling like the other egg (which was pointy end, side down). Should I just let it go.... or start peeling away shell in the general area?

FYI... all other eggs, including the one I externally pipped.... are in action and I feel good about them. The egg I internally pipped is also still breathing well. The single SA egg that was set a day behind is starting to internally pip too, so I will be moving it in a few hours to hatcher.

Wow.. Ok, you've got a busy day.

The one that's pipping wrong.. how active is it?

I'm the same way as far as holding them. My daughter loves to hold her in her lap. Of course yesterday she had to change her britches... Ugh. I try to make her not hold them, but then I'm also thrilled that she loves them so much. So.... we have poo sometimes. (poo happens)

And we have had a bad string of luck lately.. but it's weird how the bad luck happens to us all at the same time.
