SM: I've been waiting all day for you to get one here. Guess what? I got in touch with our 4H woman, (finally found her contact info), and we're going to our first meeting on April 2nd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Isn't that exciting!!!!!

And I can't wait to see that beak too!

That is so kool. You guys will really like 4H. I have been a leader for almost 8 years now and have enjoyed so much watching the girls go from little girls to grown up teenagers and young women. I love them all as though they were my own. Of course your ducks will be shown, Right????

Thanks everybody.....the vet just left. He couldn't suture the area, of course, but it's cut really, really deep. Bad thing is my horse did this 3 months ago in the same spot and I had finally got it healed up, but I didn't have the bleeding issue. Vet wrapped it tight, tight, tight...there was a vessel spurting blood once he got it cleaned up. Vet says he got down into the cartiladge and coronary band, and will probably develop arthritis in a couple of years. He's only 5 this spring! He took down the whole bottom rung of barbed wire, and there is a blood trail on it a good 15 feet long on it so he was hung up good.
I'm just very, very depressed. I hand raised this horse from the age of 6 weeks old, he was an orphan that almost died.

Dutch - Horses can just be so irrational in their decision making process, can't they? When Dandy (an old horse dead now) knocked over a feed troubh, then stepped through it and cut his foot to the bone several times in his INSANE EFFORTS to free himself, it was a long haul to good health. I hope with more of your excellent care, he'll return to a sound leg soon. Whats his name?

Well, little Oswald passed....

... I'm kinda happy though, he peeped like he was in pain most o the night. Now I can relax, and wait for the rest to come.

DG- I'm sorry it didn't work out for your baby.

If his passing can save the lives of future babies, then his death was not in vain. I understand very well wishing they were here quickly, though.

Well after talking with Jaz I think I will just be passing on the Cayugas for now. I will be getting some Aurora Springs Anconas from her on Saturday and then I also have some more Ancona eggs coming my way from Boondocker lines on Sunday. Hopefully they will be fertile. I am hoping this will make a good foundations for my small urban flock. I love my Jaz. She always makes me feel better.

I had Cayugas, and I don't now, and I don't miss them. I've also ordered some Anconas from Estes hatchery, so I'm looking forward to seeing how they are as layers. I figure with white pekings, and dk. brown Khakies, the mixed Anconas will be a fun break for my eyes!

Iain Utah - That is interesting about the feed the chicks prefer. I read Celtic and others posts on those feeds, and I'm checking around to see who sell it here.

I moved Lucky and the 6 chick peep band out to the garage last night. DH brought home some humungous arctic cat (4-wheeler) boxes from work, and now they are uptown for sure. Its nice to have room for the BIG waterer and the BIG feeder, so I don't have to do that every 12 hours now. Lucky is a happy duck.

I'm down to 7 from 12+ turkey eggs. Only 1 chocolate ever made an embryo, but the midget whites are doing great. (Oh, and my &%^$ turner stopped, so now I'm hand turning the turkeys and geese). Always somthing, isn't it?

Yup! The leader asked me what we were interested in so I told her poultry. She said they didn't have anyone that did that yet in that chapter, but she'd find someone who knows about it for me. yay!!

Did you hear about my little breda chicken? His neck got broke yesterday.

He finally died this morning, I tried so hard to keep him alive.

I'm sorry SM. I hope you win those eggs your bidding on.

I felt really crummy when Uno, the solo turkey, flipped himself up out of the open brooder, and fell off backwards and broke his neck just last friday. I loved him, and I'm still bummed about my boy.

We're just starting 4H too! Both ruth (12) and Julia (6) love love poultry too, so why not? We ain't gettin' no cows though. Or pigs. (maybe a nice milk goat would be good.....)

What are those tiny milkgoats named? Not the LaManchas (we love those too) but the pygmy or something..... Anyone know?
