Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

No, not her fault at all. Never acused her. But it was her drake that threw all boys. I might still get them, not sure. Maybe it was ment to be, and I'm awesome at hatching drakes. I didn't say i wasn't gonna get anymore cause it was her fault, I just screwed up pretty bad

. I just can't do another hatch I don't think.

I told her that I was happy with her eggs, and some other nice stuff about her eggs, and ducks. I haven't told her yet that her ducks threw all boys.

Her drake didn't throw all boys. The girls just didn't make it.

And you didn't screw it up. Just get a new hygrometer and give it another go. Do this hatch with your eggs first and figure it out.

Mine all died before getting to the air sac. I had one get to the air sac and then die 3 days later without pipping. I had one that managed to pip and I had to help it the rest of the way 3 days later. That one is doing fine.

DG: This is my post from PAGE 3! Do you remember this? I lost 10 eggs. Fully formed. For no good reason.

Dutch: Welsh harlequins have a sexlinked bill. Males have dark, females light. Every baby had a bill as black as night.

If I plan on getting more, I'm gonna send extra money, theres no way I'm taking those eggs, and only paying for shipping. I would feel horrible.

Just set reason to other

and severity to trivial

Then explain in that box why it should be stickied

Good, I did it right last night.

DG, I wasn't going to say anything last night... but that is how Pretzel passed. It kicked its bottom half of shell off and tore something... looked similar to your pic. It didn't make it. The lesson I learned was to place Wrong Way and SA with bottom half of shells into a dish so that they had to stay in shell until I could visually see the yolk sac gone. Only then did I set them on towels on the bottom floor and let them kick the shell off.

Thanks for sharing this! Now I know what to do just in case.

OK, I need to know. What all does every one have? (birds, breeds, ect?) How many do you have? What are you incubating right now???

I have:
Indian Runners (many)
Blue Swedish (3)
Pekins (6 counting the three babies)
a Cayuga (1)
an unknown mix duck (1)
Khaki Campbells (8)

In my incubator hatching 4/11:
Runners (local)
Black East Indies (ChicksO)
(1) Silkie (local)

In my other incubator hatching 4/17-18:
Runners (local)
Rouens (from DG!!!)
Penciled Runners (Coyote Night Acres)
Saxony (eBay)
(2) Silkies (local)

Hatching 4/23:
Welsh Harlequins (local)
(1) Silkie (local)

As you can see, I'm taking the Silkie eggs when I can get them! Also... still not a one starter out of my ducks!!! But they hit 14 eggs a day today!

I have sizzles/silkies, EE's, mutts, midget white turkey, roman tufted geese, 2 mixed ducks, 5 calls, and tibetan coturmix. I have in the incubator blue slate/royal palm turkeys, call ducks, and a woodcock.

I fed my first ducklings game bird starter only. It has 32% protein I believe. The only duck I've ever had develop angelwing came from someone who fed their ducks chick starter, so I think niacin plays a big part in it.

Woodcock! Woodcock! Woodcock! I can't wait to see photos when that little guy hatches!

How many of each breed Marty?? I'm just sitting here, thinking about ducks. Waiting for external pips on my last two eggs (huff)

Glad we're here to keep you busy while you wait. That's what good hatch buddies do!

Eyeheart, I believe symptoms of niacin deficiency are mostly leg issues. Then there is vit b (thiamine) deficiency which causes wry neck and star gazing (which I have also dealt with when my cayuga duck was a week old and fixed with polyvisol).

Ducklings are extremely fragile. Fortunately, they are resilient little things.

Polyvisol and nutritional yeast fixed my ducklings with shaky leg right up last year. I'm watching the Flock Raiser this year... I gave it to them until 6 weeks last time. Bad mama duck that I was.

Awsome Ian, thats great.

Somebody also e-mailed me a "movie" thats only 2-3 minutes long of shadowing. Its very cool, and once my guru explains too me how to do this exact magic trick, I'll try to share it. I will ask her where she prefers and if I can say whos it is first; gotta be polite ya know.

Can you do a pic comparing a quite there yet egg, maybe the same age, next to one that is doing it, so I can really see what I'm looking at? All this is way more complicated than I'm used to.

OH...... Guess what I have coming next week????

Emu eggs???

My neighbor keeps emus and came over trying to sell us some emu eggs. Glad hubby remembered Rule #6.
