I'm not sure..... these will be my first silkie ducklings, so we will see. If we get them around the same time I can post pics of what mine look like because Holderread Guaranteed them to be silkie feathered.
OK, sounds good. I will have to post tons of pics of mine too. I'm just so excited to see what color/s I get. I want greys, or blacks. But I don't really care.
Heres the Email I got to explain the silkie genes.
For a Silkie duck to have the silkie feathering, it needs two of the silkie genes...or said another way, a duck that is homozygous (for the silkie gene) will have silkie feathering. A normal feathered Silkie (or a heterozygous Silkie) has only one silkie gene. So mating of Silkies is as follows:
-- Homozygous Silkie (2 genes) mated with heterozygous Silkie (1 gene) will produce the following: 1/2 homozygous Silkies and 1/2 heterozygous Silkies.
--Heterozygous Silkie mated with heterozygous Silkie will produce the following: 1/4 homozygous Silkie, 1/2 heterozygous Silkie and 1/4 non Silkies
Mating heterozygous Silkie with homozygous Silkie often gives the best reproduction. Let me know if you have further questions.
I really didn't read it correct the first time lol
