Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Now now, Iain. I'm your friend, and its my duty as a fellow hatcher to be a good enabler of our artform. Besides, they'll just fit in your saddlebags.

Thanks everyone for the well wishes for my horse. I swear he's gonna be the death of me!

Here are the three button quail that have made it.....

OMG!! I had to hold my hand out and put a penny on it....wow, so tiny! I have always wanted some, but have no idea what I'd do with them. Very cute!

Reminds me of the evening of "pecker" talk we enjoyed a week or so ago

I think Woody's got'em beat, though!

Marty, what would I do with button quail? Can I let them free range in pasture after brooding?

Dutch, my first love, who I got as an unhandled yearling, will turn 10 years old in 2 weeks. He should have died at least 5-6 times already. He has had 2 major life/death surgeries, numerous potentially permanent lameness injuries (one of which required a 3rd major surgery) and countless other ailments. I have my vet, farrier, and an out-of-state board cert. surgeon all on my cell phone speed dial (and believe me, they pick up when they see my number calling). I know what you mean about having a "special child" which will drive you to an early grave!

Oh No!!!! The toulouse I thought was positioned wrong just punched out at the wrong place. Thank GOD he punched out, but I don't know if it will be able to get out of shell without help. What to do???

Around here, free ranging button quail would be tasty treats for the roving cats

Yeah, this horse is lucky to be alive to begin with, and he had a bad leg wound last year that was up in front of hock. Of course, up there, you can't keep it wrapped so I had to do "open wound" treatment on him. I was suprised he came out of it with only a scar. This wound is so very bad, and in the exact same spot where he did it just 3 months ago...had finally got it healed up nicely, the turd! It just wasn't as bad as it this time....didn't have the bleeding issue or have to call a vet last time. The list of complications this time is very, very high. *sigh*

Sounds like you are going to have to rely on those awesome midwife skills you have! "You can do it"!

The use of button quail:

Used often by zoos and small poultry keepers as pick up crew. They are allowed free range (in secure areas, I mean, they are tiny and kittys and other wee beasties will eat them) to pick up dropped and knocked out bits of food.

They are docile pets.

They are fun and interesting to watch, and good in the bottem of averys and the like.

Oh, and they can clean up your campsite, but I think you'd have to carry them in saddlebags or something. LOL.
