Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

CG, looks like a fabulous spring day where you are and your birds look very happy. Great pics!

iain yesterday was pretty nice,
clear blue skys and pretty warm (60s)
the girls crack me up, they were out of wat so i opened the door to get it (after having fed them prolly 20 dandelions, they love them even the ducks)
well i reach in to get it and they decide hey we want to go for a walk so they just push right past me and take off to eat weeds in the garden lol.
they got 3 walks yesterday,
on the last on they discovered the hayfield. its tall enough you cant see the ducks in it.

it was soo cute watching amelia talk to the big ducks yesterday,
she gave them an ear full and they all just looked at like her funny. and then she got all excited and went running back to abby talking about the big ducks.
=)

oh and my cat had babies yesterday 5 of them,
and of corse she had them at the bottom of the big stack of hay. so bobby had to move most of it so i could get to them.
i will take a pic later,
shes such a proud mamma.
the other cat is due soon, she looks like she is gona POP.

oh and i have 21 eggs in bator.

didnt get a single egg yesterday.

and their pool is leaking more, guess its time to try to fix it, and get a new pool for them.

Little EE chick was away from broody and babies and was running back and forth trying to get back into the duck brooder so I let her in there. Guess she'll be staying with the ducklings for awhile. Tomorrow is lockdown for turkeys.

i promise =)

so i have 9 eggs in the bator set to hatch tonight. they are actually starting to shake on occasion, wasnt expecting that at all. can anyone tell me what to expect from here on out and give me any pointers, this is my first hatch

It will be nice to have a waterfowl that adores me for a change! I wish I could time a hatch to conincide with schools end, so we could hang with it every day all summer. Think we'd ever get them to leave us alone then?

Oh, you should see Lucky, he is growing so fast, he makes regular pekings look slow!

At first, he and the chicks (who are older) were the same size. The next day, he was noticably larger. Last night DH kinda freaked out when he saw how huge he was allready. He's seen some baby ducks now, but Luckys takes the cake. He is huge. (I've send a mail (via ebay) to the guy I got him from, begging more eggs - ebaying some more button quail eggs too)

The poor unfortunate baby button that DD dropped continues to eat, drink, and sleep, but the legs are stiff and stuck out behind him all the time. He can't even make himself set upright. He has a nest in a clear box, designed to keep him in a "normal" position. I'm thinking head/neck/spine trauma, but I think if he's still alive tomarrow, I'm gonna try electrolytes. If he can just keep eating and drinking, he may still come out of it, but I'm getting less optimistic.
Poor baby button. :( There's still hope though!

Marty, awesome to hear Lucky is doing so well. Sorry to hear button not showing improvement yet. I love my ducklings. They are cute and sweet. But goslings see you as mom. You are protector to them. It's very different than ducklings and I am sure you will fall in love!!

x2 on the "ducklings see you as mom" comment. They imprint better than the ducks. She follows me everywhere! Love her.

so cute!!!

(squirrel pic didn't show up) She is precious!! Reminds me of a story... Something about my grandpa climbing a tree to steal a baby... and then raising it in the house... and then his mom chasing it out of the house with a broom... But I'll spare you the details. LOL.

Yay for shaking!! The best advice I can give you is to remain patient! What are you hatching?

GQ: I want to get into bee keeping!! I've been researching it for a couple years now. (yes, a couple years). I've talked to the Missouri Beekeeper Association and there are a few people I can get in touch with around here.. but let me ask you one thing.. Is it hard to get the bees to "like" their new hive? Cuz I've heard that can be a tricky process.

Which reminds me of a story about my Great Uncle John. He was a bee charmer. ;)

i have a mixed flock and just recently downsized but these eggs are from either pekin, cayuga or indian runner hens and the drakes are either cayuga or runner
