Marty, if you found shrinkwrap and it's hatching day.... open them up!

Of course I do not mean start taking chunks of shell off... but make an external pip large enough to see inside with flashlight to look for shrinkwrap.

Of my cayugas, I have one egg internally pipped, 4 working on internally pipping, and my 5th egg is still trying to turn. And my goodness my toulouse baby on day 25 is really going strong at turning.

Babies on the way! Exciting! I've got 2 more runners pipped. Watching them close after the demise of the Silkie Duck.

So no turkeys, so I pulled at a previously active egg, and pipped it. Check inside, found a beak, and pipped that area. This turkey, along with 2 pheasent eggs, contain dead offspring. Perfectly fully formed, and dead.

So, looked like white membriane - shrink wrap. Should I open all the other eggs, or wait? The one I opened was dead, but yolk wasn't absorbed. Definately dead though. Ditto the pheasents, but no shrink wrap there. Veins nod full of blood, either. On the verge of ready.

I would candle them, pip carefully and go from there. My silkie duck had a lot of fluid in the egg. Humidiy was right where I wanted it, so I'm stumped.

Question: Can you slip hatchlings back under broody? (No idea here... just seems like it would be ok)

Yes. Best to do it after dark though. Remove any eggs left under broody and slip babies under. I did so successfully with a chicken recently.

They were due yesterday, and I think that's when they died. Everyone was dead, and two had internal pips. They went from lower humidity bators to the 75%+ still air.

I don't know why the shrink wrapped, but its got me worried over the goslings. I'm very bummed now, they were all formed and perfect.

Gq. I helped everyone get their heads out and that is all so far they have eagerly pushed out on their own. The first 8 were ready to be out no yolk left not attached.

Today is day 29 for your toulouse? If so, go ahead and externally pip it and check. It should be internally pipping today... and if shrinkwrapped too, you may be able to hatch it out ok.

Ok. Mine were due for lockdown today, but I locked down early since I had a few pip in the turner last time. If I have to help, I need to give them at least 24 more hours. Right now I'm just making sure that the two whose beaks I can see are breathing.

I'm so sorry. My silkie baby was perfectly formed too. I don't know why there was so much fluid in the egg though. Poor little baby drowned.

Same here, but I locked down 3 yesterday... put a 4th one in this morning... and keeping a careful eye on the last one for any shadowing in back. Will probably take a peek by tomorrow morning, if I do not see progress.
