I don't know...my SQ butterscotch lay very well, like 5-6 eggs a week each. The laying isn't the issue, it's the hatching that is![]()
I've heard that to. It can take weeks for some chickens to be brokenseems to me that ducks are soo much easier to break then chickens
I don't mind the assisting so much, as long as I can get them to that point. I'm a scrub...surgery is my thing, LOLmaybe shes breeder quality lol.
some hens are spotty layers. could also be the weather . has it been fluctuating?
my girls have stopped layin everyday . but the again i have 4 hens so i dont know who lays
=) we will be ok. we will get thru this darn SW
but i give up on 1 hatchin itself.
i mean come on even under the hen they SW
they are incapable thats my conclusion
i thought so . but had to ask.
my chicken has been on an empty nest for almost 3 weeks.Dutch!.
. Looks like mine may just be a bad layer. Luckily she seems to be a good broody. Which is what I need more than a layer most of the time.![]()
I've heard that to. It can take weeks for some chickens to be broken. I thought last year was bad when it took Bruce like 2 weeks to stop.![]()
I went ahead and separated mine so maybe they would get used to being together. There was some weird ducky dynamic happening with mine. Mallard started mating ancona, Ancona was mating with mallard, they were both picking on Apple Drake.. (who's kinda dumb actually.) My pen is about 3x4 for each one. So 2 ducks in 3x4. I let them out during the day though. In shifts now of course. Mallards and Apples out, then at noon I put them up and let out Ancona... etc..etc.. It sucks. lol.
I think I would at this point.
Have you tried sticking her in a cage where there is wind underneath her? I heard that somewhere on the forummy chicken has been on an empty nest for almost 3 weeks.
she gets tossed off twice a day .
she refuses to give up. and she already say 3 times in a row.
she needs a break.
I wanna swap too!Hubby's always like the one that doesn't make the most sense. lol. I would set it up. Why not? I have noticed since separating them the Apples stick a little closer together. Unless I let Chuck the Duck out of course. Then they're all about him. (eye roll)
I want to swap Ancona too when they start laying. If ya wanna. Oh and then Cayuga when I get those.
She still have 4 silkie eggs under her, lol, I just took her Call eggs.
Hopefully they will grow on him soonOk...Uno is a total turd! Tried putting him in with the new babies, and he kept biting them all. NOT going to happen! He and his silkie buddy will just have to stay together for now. Butters is in there, but so much activitiy may be too tiring for him. I may move him back to the hospital ward at night for a couple of days.
My new buff baby and chick buddies will be here tomorrow morning!!![]()
i cant find the hole i think he ripped it clean open.
i put him on a wet paper towel. but theres barely any yolk left in the sack . the hole must be big it leaked out soo fast.
im literly almost in tears. i feel soo helpless
the duckling died in my hands.
i picked him up and was getting ready to tie it off and he took his last breath

but everyone else is soo far doing good.
1 is a little less active.
but the rest are peeping and moving.
Looks like taking the eggs broke the call's broody. Bruce is still going strong. She's going to be such a good Mommy![]()

that is good to hear!seems to me that ducks are soo much easier to break then chickens
nope.Have you tried sticking her in a cage where there is wind underneath her? I heard that somewhere on the forum
I had a buff Orp hen set 4 consecutive batches one year...and still want to set. I finally had to lock her out of the coop.my chicken has been on an empty nest for almost 3 weeks.

she refuses to give up. and she already say 3 times in a row.
