Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Hope they find the source and she does ok with post op.
Hubby isn't well at all. Spent half of yesterday with doctors. Looks like it will be just me and boys here very soon. He has to be seen by specialists we just don't have here. I can't even travel with him since the kids don't have anyone else to stay with them. So will be hoping the transfer to a new hospital will bring answers and maybe a fix. Answers is all we are hopeful for. Talking major neurological disorders now among other things.
So we are rushing to get as much done as we can while he is here. Our almost 14 year old is very handy, can run a fence and build a pen as well as hubby and I can. He also knows the turn out system and feeding system so is a huge help both with the animals and his little brother too.
Looking for someone local right now who can help with some of the goose and duck house building we need to finish. I hate the thought of paying someone since everyone seems to be charging triple for "poultry" buildings right now. Lots of counties and towns here are going pro chicken ect, so lots of people trying to make a buck selling buildings.
That's not good new AT ALL. When did all this begin?

Yup! That's why I don't spend too much time over there. The special breeds pages are cliquey too.
Same here! I don't understand why they can't get along better like us waterfowl people. Sure we have the occasional disagreement but we're never all at each other's throat. I think the animals we raise show a reflection of our personalities. I've always thought of chickens as more proper and bickery...like some of the chicken people. Now ducks on the other hands are messy, fun loving, and don't kill each other when someone new is around... like us.
Kevin, heaven forbid you correct a long term BYC'r over there > on the chicken side. Many get their feathers ruffled and some have been known to retaliate with the use and or abuse of "power". The breed spacific threads can get heated as well. Unfortunately the hatcheries selling birds labeled wrongly will add to that issue. Marans who lay medium to light brown eggs. EE labeled as Ameracuana ect, ect.

That is word for word exactly how I feel! The whole EE thing has actually bothered me a few times. I see people so excited thinking the have a Ameracuna and next thing you know you have a pack of "Ameracuana Experts" down their throat saying oh no that's a mutt EE. I rarely see that being put in a nice way.
That is why I love this thread and everyone on it

. posted Mr Worf's injury on the emergency thread and here. Got a response right away here and nothing there for days. And by the way Mr Worf is nicely healed up with feathers growing back in almost can't tell that he was ripped open across his chest.
I had the exact same experience when I had the egg bound goose. Replies in the Chicken section? None. Same thread in the goose section? 3 pages worth and people checking in every morning asking how she was doing. Now THAT'S how it should be.

If I had to guess what happened to my buff girl, I'd say they got jostled while they were standing and the larger boy probably fell on her, with his beak hitting side of her face at the worse possible angle.

Sorry to hear the news, Celtic. Hope the specialist can help your husband get better.

If chickens are proper and bickery, and ducks are messy and fun loving... what are geese?

QJ, we have been dealing with this round for a year now. Stroke almost 8 weeks ago now. Prolonged chronic pain disorder for 6+ years. He was hospitalized for 1 week and when he came home he was ordered to return to duty the next morning on base. It's just how the military does things unfortunately.

Thanks Iain, this too shall pass.

I always view Geese as Crazy Loving Old People. They're always so sweet and seem to want to help every single baby.

I found this labeled as a "Goose":
